Thanks for all the input guys. I'm not a "gun guy". Like I said, I have one 270 and also a Marlin 3030. That's it. But I'm finally at a point in my life where I don't feel as guilty spending money on something I want. I'm probably going to be helping manage an MLD ranch in Kerr county with the opportunity to shoot several whitetail and axis each year.
If I don't get an elk on this year's archery hunt, I will probably be going back with a rifle.

I met four dudes that were culling for the chupadero once. They all shot .25-06 for the combination of flat shooting and low recoil. That being said, you can't go wrong with your choices.
7mm08
Went ahead and got it threaded too. Just in case.
Good choice, congrats. I am not a gun guy either but had a cheapo Savage 110 in 7mm-08 for many years and killed a lot of PA whitetails with it. It didn't recoil a lot less than my Browning A Bolt .270 but it was less. I stupidly sold both rifles about 8-10 years ago. Wish I kept them now.
Mark, see link in first post. It's got all the specs.
Just got off the phone with Garrett at APR. Was surprised to have a voicemail this morning asking me to call to go over a few things on my rifle build.
They worked me a good deal on a Curtis custom action instead of the 700 action.
Also waiting to see if McMillan still has Kryptek available. If not, gotta make another choice.
