We're working on something similar now, but can't decide whether to go with flagstone or concrete, mostly because we'll be tying into an existing concrete patio.

Just curious, because I have no idea. Will the grout hold up over time? Being it's a sand base, instead of concrete?

Very nice!!!! Couple of questions, what kind of sand, did you smooth it out or level and whats in between the flag stone

My fil has property out in atascosa and I took sand from there (don't know if this helps). I did level out the sand before I put the flagstone down which made it easier to level out the stones. There is nothing special between the stones themselves, just concrete. I made sure to pack as much concrete between stones as possible to prevent air pockets and possible cracks.
