Question Muzzleloader Options

A friend is curious what his options would be for rifle hunting in Texas as a felon. The dude was seventeen and dumb when he committed the crime (that did not involve moral turpitude), and has been living on the right side of the law ever since.

Anyways, it is an unfortunate thing he has to live with, and he could use some of your guidance as I can't help. Although there is a bunch of conflicting information in the internet, it looks like federal and Texas law agree that "a muzzleloading firearm is lawful if it is an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 or a replica of an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 that does not use rimfire or centerfire ammunition" per the TPWD site.

That being said, he's going to put a scope and a kill light on it for nighttime hog hunting. Any suggestions? Honestly, he will likely look for something used to get a better price, but he is brand new to muzzleloaders so he doesn't know where to start. He has never even fired one.

FYI: Don't worry, he does already have a bow.

It has to be loaded through the muzzle. No inline or moderns rifle. just have your friend get a flintlock, so there is no reason to question the gun.

That sucks. Kind of OT: Any chance he meets any of the requirements for record expungement?
