If you look at camera 2 from the first link, that crane is reaching pretty far out. I know looks can be deceiving, but dang, I don't think that crane is that big to reach that far.

I'm sure the base has a lot more weight in it than the statue itself. The base is the anchor point.

Hopefully it includes a major shift of weight and a crane on its side during live broadcast.

Haha! He can't reach! He's two-blocked! Gonna need a bigger crane. Don't know if his jib can handle the load. What a cluster!

Yeah, cause having people get injured and/or killed is worth the embarrassment.

That city is the armpit of America. There isn't an elected official in the city that is not crooked. I grew up just outside of NO and moved to Texas 27 years ago. Best decision I ever made in my life.

I am going to bet it doesn't come down today...I don't see a single light plant, they haven't disconnected the statue from it's pedestal, and I am fairly certain that crane is way too small for how far the boom is reaching out.

I moved here from River Ridge about the same time. Not a native, but lived down there for several years. Most people that I knew down there had moved from New Orleans out to Jefferson Parish in the 80's. Explains a lot.

If he doesn't have to lift the base over something, like bolts or whatever, he can boom up and make the lift. He's two-blocked out at this point.

I'm sure the experienced riggers, ground crew and crane operator could implement a full work stoppage if they felt a potential safety issue.

They must feel confident they have it rigged right since they are removing the bolts that hold it in place

Rigging looks good to me, it's the brim of the Generals hat that I'd be concerned about.

Absolutely. That's how Big Blue went down. Good thing is, the statue doesn't have much surface area to catch wind. He's obviously pretty aerodynamic. He's survived hurricane force winds more than a few times.

If you watch his boom, it's swaying in the wind. The operator has his swing brake on, so all of that boom movement is flex. If he makes this lift, he better lower the load quickly.

I noticed the sway a bit ago.

I've built a few tele-booms too. Not quite that large. But not far from it.

Sadly the truth will never be known, but at least Stacy Head is trying to hold Landrieu accountable for all money spent on this cluster project. Landrieu will lie through his teeth since he DGAF

.... " The chairwoman of the New Orleans City Council’s budget committee is calling for a full accounting of public money spent on the removal of four monuments associated with the Confederacy and Jim Crow.

Councilwoman Stacy Head, the only member of the City Council to vote against removing the monuments, says she accepts that they have come down, but also says the public deserves to know what taxpayer dollars were spent to do so.

“I need to know what money was used, how did we get that money if it was from outside sources, what city money was used and what did we give up as a city to go through that endeavor for him,” Head said, referring to Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

The Landrieu administration has kept secret many details about the monument removal effort after contractors and city employees were threatened with violence if they participated in taking down the Battle of Liberty Place monument and statues of Confederate leaders Jefferson Davis, P.G.T. Beauregard and Robert E. Lee.

Man, I'm sorry Blake...I find the whole thing disgusting.

Sweeping history under the rug in the name PC...how a mayor can strong arm something so significant without getting the people in the loop is amazing. Future looks bleak.
