Just to clarify:

“WHACK or WALK” is about making the call from a management/age perspective.

TAKE THE SHOT or NOT?

This was a pretty good sit.

You should get out and take pictures more.

To me that deer could be a 8.5 yr old after the rut or a 4.5 yr old. Leaning more towards 8.5-9.5 and I would take him.

Walk on this buck when I first looked at him. Mainly due not knowing any past history and the deer being a mainframe 5x5. I can see him being 3.5 in those pics depending on time of them year or either a 5.5 yr old if it is after the rut. If he is 3 then he has to much upside. Even at 5.5 in a wet 6 or 7 yr old age class he could make a huge jump.

Then I tend to think he is a 5.5 yr old with a lot of potential and I would let him walk. If you would of told me the first week of January I would have a different opinion. Thanks for posting.

If that dude busts out without any prior history with him, Im letting him walk. I think he has characteristics of a buck < 5.5

This is of course in the name of management. Let that dude come out on my Bastrop place and he's got a date with a specific spot on my wall! lol

This depends on where I am hunting. secondly I lack the ability to age the deer, however just off the horns he would reach my whack category

Whack with rifle
Wait for better angle bow

I don't like the possibility of collateral damage to the deer behind

Where I hunt half the time in crocket county whack. And the only pic would be of his head on my wall. Lol. Now in Dewitt county where I hunt the other half of the time I could let him walk. But different areas different circumstances. Depends on you.
