Occasional axis come through still im sure depending on which ranch you hunt. We spotted a big axis buck a mile from our pasture when we hunted there, but never saw one while on stand.

looks like they have had 2 hard freezes and possibly again tonight. One more on Jan 1 they are calling for would really help.

2 weeks away and getting anxious

Aim low, they are super jumpy. I was there for WT a month ago-ish and spring Turkey. Lots of good game running around. Like others said be prepared for a hard hunt. We had Nick set up pop ups for us. We noticed the deer were moving about 100 yards farther down so I set up my own blind closer to their travel path and got two does down. Saw a heavy eight, but couldn't get on him before he slipped in brush.

I'll be hunting WT there for the first time in Jan. Gonna have Nick get us setup as many people here have suggested. We were there for spring turkey and excited to get back.

How low do you typically aim for there? This seems to be one of the common statements made about brushy hill and 1st point.

At 20-25 yards I was aiming low in the crease ( like an inch up from the body). Out there if you were going to take a longer shot you would start aiming 2-3 inches down the leg. I shoot a Hoyt Turbo Defiant and was amazed how much they could move before my arrow got there. First shot was a high heart (heart just exploded and she dropped in her tracks). Second she managed to spin while the arrow was in the air. I took a broad side shot...by the time the heat arrive It was lung/gut shot (only went 10 yards).

Take your time, put a good shot on them...and have fun!

Yeah that's what I'm shooting for. It's only about 30" tall so I should be able to conceal it in brush easily. Looking for a good trail on at the base of a hill to have some elevation.

Yep if Santa was an overly cautious crackhead that like to show you pics and tease you but never actually give you the presents!

Thumbs up 2017 Brushy Hills

Me and a couple of my friends hunted Brushy Hills a couple of weeks ago and had the best time. All three of us saw deer and turkeys. Both my buddies killed does and I harvested a nice eight point and a turkey. Nick did a great job putting us on deer and all the hunters in camp were great. Three guys were hunting Hog Heaven South with us and another group of three hunted the North pasture. Many of the hunters had daytime pics of shooter bucks and one of the them showed us pics of a great ten point and showed us the location of his brush blind when his hunt was over so we could hunt it if we wanted. His set up was as good as it gets. On our third day Nick encouraged me to make a move, and this new blind I set up payed off with an eight point. We could not ask for a better experience. We have booked for next year.
