I've got a collection of their head rocks somewhere. We used to catch a bunch of them down in the RGV. As a kid, I'd cut their heads open, get the rocks out and keep the things. Not sure why, I probably had dreams of making a necklace for my mother or a girlfriend.

I remember catching my first "over" on Fork. Thought I had a new state record LMB. Turned out to be about a 10lb bowfin. Dang thing fought like a demon on a plastic worm. Come to think of it, I've caught several of them, and none were less than 5lbs or so. I think they are born that big. lol
Same thing happened to me. I set the hook about as hard as could and cut the hell out of my finger on 50Lb power pro. I knew for sure I had a Share a lunker. Nope 10 lb bowfin.
