If you are responding to the question for non-reloaders, I would shy away from the .270WSM and stick with the other two recommendations.

Meant that I can't decide. Been looking at ballistics all morning, and have narrowed it down to a few. Won't be reloading!

I grew up shooting a Roberts and still do to this day.
I’ve seen my dad devastate some animals with his 25-06 we bought him. The Hornady 117gr SST can be found at academy or cabelas fairly regularly. We usually buy it 2 boxes at a time and start looking again when we get down to one box so we never run out. Not a terrible lot of recoil either.

I'm in the same boat as some of the others. All of this is foreign to me.

I've been thinking I want an 7-08. Is 7-08 a good caliber for say Axis, Mule Deer and Aoudad?

Yeah 25-06 is much easier to locate on a regular basis. 257 not so much. 25 caliber rifles are great deer rifles. I wish there was more of a market for them.

The 117 grn 25.06 is legit!! Dads ruger 1 and my TC shoot it well. I like the 25.06 a lot and considered this build in it. Ive taken a fair amount of deer with it with an 87 grn also.

Im really torn on this entire APR deal. Order for me or sons graduation (even though hes only a freshman). Then theres the caliber dilemma. Dont have a need for a magnum rifle really. More interested in a whitetail round from the pineywoods to south texas deer and maybe antelope. Reloading at pops is possible but not a deal breaker if I dont mess with it. Right now he loads for us but we dont go thru much ammo. Heck Ive had the same box of 25.06 for the TC for 4 or 5 years

Still thinking about this. Really in a quandary about what caliber to get if I decide to order. My current APR is in .264 Win Mag. I have several other calibers in production rifles, from .270 Win up to .375 H&H. I don't have anything between .264 and .22-250.

260 gets my vote!! I love my 260s. Good source of factory ammo as well.

25-06 after that personally

7mm08 after that.

I was sure dreaming up either the 6.5prc or 280ai if those were options. Only have a 270 and 22-250 and do not hand load yet. My understanding, you can still shoot 280 in the ai. Little concerned whether 6.5prc will take off and the availability of ammo but it is hornady marketing it

But I think it will be hard to convince the wife that a custom rifle is need at this time. To many irons in the fire but have until February to think or dream about it. Either way, thanks APR for the offer.

For you guys thinking about the 260 that don't hand load, I'm about to sound like a broken record when I say consider the 6.5CM. I know, I know.....everybody is hating on it because its the flavor of the month and is being pushed EVERYWHERE. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sick of hearing about it too. But facts are facts, and it backs up its promise of performance in its intended place. It offers the SAME level of performance as the 260 in factory ammo, with the benefits of fitting in your mag box, large and available ammo selection that is continuing to grow, which most of the time is cheaper and you'll be hard pressed to find any of it that doesn't shoot lights out.

Me too. It also just doesn't appear to add a whole lot of performance* over what the 6.5 CM can do. The 6.5 SAUM/GAP4s looked like a more meaningful difference, but now with the PRC out I have even more concerns about their viability.

*Pushing a 143 ELD-X at 3100fps from a 22" barrel would be a meaningful boost over 6.5 CM. But 2960/24"? Meh. (https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/r...sion-hunter#!/)

The real world difference between the PRC and the GAP is about 50fps. Which amounts to about the same variance you could see between 2 different barrels. If you want PRC performance in something that is sure to stick around, look no further than the 6.5-284

Ditto, I have an older Marlin mr-7 and it shoots the 117 like a bat out of hell.
They’ve been just as easy to find as any .243 or .270 ammo around here.

whoever takes advantage of this group buy is gonna get a very nice rifle.

My advice, sell 2-3 factory rifles and invest in 1 custom as you won't be sorry

whoever takes advantage of this group buy is gonna get a very nice rifle.

My advice, sell 2-3 factory rifles and invest in 1 custom as you won't be sorry

True story as always

This thread is really making me kick my own butt for having all my parts ready for a build but still having to get the gunsmithing/machining done.

If I knew this was coming I would have been money ahead just saving and waiting.

For those not familiar with Grayboe stocks, Ryan McMillan owns the company. His dad owns McMillan stocks. The Grayboes are very nice. I'm waiting on the new Grayboe to come out so Robert can build me a 6 Dasher.

Sounds awesome.....I am thinking about something very similar. Possibly 7-08 with 22" barrel, twisted flute, black with gray web stock and cerakoted sniper gray.
