Default Shoot or let him walk

I Have this guy coming to the feeder. What do y'all think he'll score? The issue I have is if I dont take him this year then someone on the property next to me will. But he kinda looks young imo.

IMO he is at least 5, and possibly 8+. I say that because I expect 6-7 year old bucks to be in their "prime" and super fat right now. At least that's what I expect to see when reviewing trail cam pictures. This deer may be on the downhill side and has a super 8 point frame. I would probably shoot.

It's hard to judge age off cell pics like that but I'm thinking he could be older.
If you like him then I'd kill him.

Nice buck with character. He looks good.

IMO, he is showing signs of age. I would put him in the high 140's since you hunt in the pandhandle with those bigger bodied deer.

*If you just got on the lease and plan on staying then let him walk for genetic purposes

*If you have an multi year protein program in place beyond his date of birth then let him walk because he will make something of himself a year or 2 beyond 5.5

*If you have been on the place awhile, no protein, and and he's 5.5 + then no question you take him.

So what is everyone seeing from the B&W hazy pics that makes so sure he's a rare "run down" older buck? Imo if he's that old to have the thinning from age he wouldn't have such a sizeable rack. The deer biology would maintain his body first not his rack. I think he's a very impressive young deer that should be allowed to spread those genetics. "Run down" old bucks are very rare much less sporting a huge rack. All that said, I would want to see color pics that might show the sagging hide in the face and jaw line to be sure.

Depends on your neighbors plus your management program . He is probably a 5 year old and possibly even 6 .. yeah he can probably reach that famous 160 plus 8pt every one is looking for but you just never know ! Right know as he is I would put money on he is every bit 145+ basic frame 8pt . It would be hard buck to pass up if it was me especially if he is standing broad side at 20 yards !

Typically a mature bucks antlers will extend to or past his nose. Based on the color pic I don't see the age in the face. Also don't see the girth in the front shoulders mature bucks usually develop. No sagging or squinting eyes. His antlers have several extra points; any protein feed? No matter what that is a nice looking buck.

LOL. Now that's funny.

As far as the pic, that's a mature deer. I'd say at least 6.5, drooping gut, short legs and full brisket. Good buck to take for sure. Good luck.

tough time of the year to pin down an age from pics, but he definitely doesn't look like a young deer to me. Unless an in person experience made me decide otherwise I would be ready to fling an arrow the first time he showed up

Many people mistake old bucks this time of year because they don't really look like old bucks. The thin neck makes them look younger, no doubt about that. But you'd be hard pressed to find a 4.5 year old buck with a body like that any where in Texas. The body is what gives away his age.
