Default RIP Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned, but overbearing, regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teenagers suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they had themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer paracetamol, sun lotion or plaster to a pupil, but could not inform the parents when a pupil became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home, but the burglar could sue you for assault because you protected yourself and your own.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realised that he was gone.

If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Saw this a few years ago. Sadly it applies even when nothing off the charts is happening here or abroad!

Common sense isn't dead. I use it every chance I get. If those of us that do try to use it do nothing then it will soon be lost and for good. Don't give in.

Sorry, what you call common sense in no longer common because less then 50% of the people have it. That means you don't have common sense.

If you reckon it passed today, I wonder if you just crawled out from under a rock. I dug up a fossil the other day and my paleontologist buddy identified it as commonus senceicus. Good read thanks.

Common sense is earned from before memories are made. People are too sensitive to let their kids figure out that the stove is hot. Spare the rod and kiss the future goodbye! So the moral is ....let them work and whip that *** when they screw up or more importantly DISRESPECT YOU! Common sense will be restored! Otherwise move to the country and make your kids drive a tractor, build fence and figure out what to do when they are hot, cold and hungry! Resist the urge to do it for them. Gives them a hand to shake or high five when they figure it out. The end

Good stuff. I was just talking so a Hillary supporter about all the school shootings. Of course it's all the guns fault SMH. We have lost so much as a people in the Country. There are still plenty good folks, but we are not the squeaky wheel that get the grease. We need to get back to God, family, and good old common sense values.

Common sense is fading fast! Don't need it anymore.
A lot of folks especially young people think they are way more important than they really are these days. Don't get me wrong here. Everyone is valuable.
Another is Perception and Reality. Many folks today perceive they are really really good at many things because of all the information they have acquired from TV, the internet, winning a trophy for participating and bad parenting. When in reality they are too lazy to get out and work hard or put in the time practicing a skill or trade and actually performing it correctly. When it's hard or difficult hey just move on to the NEXT most interesting thing.
Sorry for the rant! JMO

The world's changed. I read about a couple of grade school kids who were shooting each other with "finger guns" during recess. They were suspended and referred for psychiatric examination and Anger Management counseling. The teacher who "caught" them said "I feared for my life!!!!" Now more and more schools don't allow the kids to RUN during recess, because "they might trip and fall." Don't get me started..................

This is the biggest problem with the current discussion on mental illness. While I agree those with mental illness should not own firearms, but who gets to decide who is mentally ill, depressed, or otherwise. As with most government entities, these boards or juries who decide this will ultimately be populated with liberal minded individuals. It will slowly be a method to limit those with access to firearms.
