In China, they don't peel them before flash frying them without batter. You eat them whole with the shell. Its OK for smaller sized shrimp, but larger shrimp not so much.

We used to fry the tails up too, they were great snacks at a fish fry.

I totally LOL'd when I read that. When we butcher our own chickens we save the feet. Dampen them, crust them in sea salt and after a quick dunk in boiling water we peel the skin off. They make great additions to any soup or stock.

To the original question I eat shrimp tails every time I can. My darling wife and amazing daughter even save theirs for me to munch.

Got to tell a story about an army acquaintance (a Captain) we called "Bubba"--who was in DC on a TDY (temporary duty for you non-military types) and he went out to eat with another buddy Bill who was there in school. They went to a seafood restaurant and Bill noticed Bubba was eating the boiled shrimp without peeling them and asked if he was enjoying them. Bubba said "Yep, but they are a bit crunchy". Bubba was from north of the Red River and it was his first time to eat boiled shrimp, believe it or not.

Yep, always.

What about fried shrimp spiders?
Always called them that growing up. If you're frying up shrimp, as you peel them, take the guts and legs and batter them and fry 'em. We liked those more than the actual shrimp. I still do that for my kids too.

They have a peanut mill in Jourdanton and I have seen them ol boys sweating, loading peanuts. Their sweat would be dripping all over the peanuts and at break time well they would just plop down on 50 pound sack of peanuts.

Ever time I see people eating peanut hulls, I think of that. But I dont ever say nothing to them.

Never did, but was invited to dinner with a good friend and a friend he went to College with, who was a active NBA player back in early 90's. Ate at Japanese steak house, cook did all kinds of tricks with knife and food. I was urged by star at table to eat fried shrimp tails...he was. The cook took all scale off tail, fried; and flipped into plate. Was actually very good. Like shrimp potato chips.
Now when I am at those kind of steak houses, I ask for the tails because most don't eat them.
