Help me build a deer rifle

I want to plan out a build for a new deer rifle so I'm going to get your guys help. Will be used in the south Texas brush country from a box blind 99.9% of the time. I'm wanting to build either a 270 WSM or a 26 nosler. I just have some kind of fetish for these rounds even though most my shots are under 300 yards. Long range target practice will be a goal with this rifle and eventually plan on takin an elk with it to. Let me know how you guys would build this gun in whichever one of these calibers you would choose.

Either one would be a good one. 270wsm would need a long action for the new 170gr bullets but both can be screamers with light ones also with 26 being more of a laser haha. From a box blind I'd go heavier

Something like this would be nice from a blind and still light enough to take for elk

    Defiance Deviant
    Bartlein 3b or 4
    Timney CE
    Manners EH2
    BDL bottom metal

Scopes are a whole other deal to decide on haha

Sounds like a great setup. And yes scopes are another deal. Thinking of a zeiss or leupold of some sort.

Sounds like you need two rifles.

I'd do a non mag. You don't need one to do any of those things and it'll be nicer/cheaper to shoot. 6.5-284 maybe

I thought about this but my dad shoots a 270 WSM and it's just crazy the results he gets from it. Everything has dropped in its tracks except for a 260 pound aoudad that went 30 yards. Now the 26 nosler seems like a different beast altogether

The fact that your dad has a 270 wsm would make we want to go with the 26 nosler.

I want to do that also just so we don't have the same caliber but man he has that thing sold on me with what it has done over the years. I remember watching him hit a doe at 150 and barrel rolled her in the air. Hopefully someone can sell me a little more on the 26 nosler.

I personally wouldn't buy a WSM of any caliber.

I'm a 6.5mm junkie and have some odd calibers but these days I lean toward more mainstream calibers. A regular 270 will do anything a WSM will do.

I have a 270 and a 30-06 one of my wants is an "oddball" caliber for this build.
