I've spent the last 20 minutes looking at "Snakes of Texas" websites and I have not seen anything that matches exactly. I've never seen a hognose with light colored splotches

I'm 100% sure it's not rat snake or water moccasin.

The neighbor lady killed this and her husband wants to know for sure to tell his garden club. I know my snakes pretty well but I've never seen one that looks like this. I've looked through both my snake books and nothing that looks like it.

The head isn't quite right for a hog nose. The blunt tail says hog nose though. Looks a lot like a water snake build to me.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like the hognose we have on our place. This is one i caught just this week in the yard and turned loose out in the woods behind my place.

If you Google Hog Nose Snake, and click on Images, you'll get a LOT of different looking snakes that are all hog nose snakes. The link I posted above has a pic that looks very much like the one in the OP's post, especially those black patches just behind the head... AKA spread 'n atter... They are about the only snake (or any animal for that matter that eats the common toad...

It's a hog nose very good snake to have around! Why do people kill all the snakes and post it on here? Why not take a pic and ask before you get trigger happy. I would of thought on the green screen we would be a little more conservationist than just kill kill kill.
