When I get this bow I vouch to kill at least 3 ungulates with it.

I donít write much but I will do my best and keep it short.

My name is Jason. I was born in Dallas and grew up in Mesquite where I went to school. My dad got me in the outdoors and hunting growing up. Parents purchased 100 acres in Jack County before I came along and every wknd that is where we would be. Fridayís they would pick me and my sister up early out of school and we would head the ranch. I was introduced to archery fairly early in my life. My dad has an old Bear bow and I can remember always trying to pull it back and maybe moving the string 1/2Ē. I had a cheap red bow and took off into the woods shooting ďATĒ many critters or whatever I could find. When I was 14 I can remember going to Big Town Gun Show and that is where I purchased my first hunting bow. Whitetail Special fully rigged and ready to go. I used that thing a lot without ever getting any animals with it.

2004 I graduated and took some of my gift money to upgrade purchasing a Ben Pearson from Cabelas the night before opening day archery. The Cabelas had an indoor range and even though they closed at 9pm that night they allowed me to stay in the range until 10pm getting set at 20yds. The next day I took my first kill shooting a pig and was hooked! From 2004-2015 I shot many pigs but never could get a deer. Had shot opportunities but passed young deer. Fall 2015 I finally connected with my biggest buck on a LIVE thread here on TBH. Since then I have taken a couple more. Now that I had tagged a few deer with a compound I wanted more of a challenge.

I attended an LSBA banquet a couple years ago and while I was there Bob Sarrels had a booth set up with a few bows. I also met Bisch and Buff who I have always enjoyed following hunts here. I took a look at Bobs bows and he asked if I wanted to shoot one. We walked out back and immediately I was attached to a Blueridge bow he had. We shot a few arrows before the award ceremony started and the night ended quickly. At the time I didnít have the funds to float towards a Trad Bow so all I could do was keep dreaming.

Last summer I was searching the classifieds and found a Sarrels Superstition for $200 and jumped on it. Shot it a few times and even took it to the field on a couple sits. Couple months later I picked up a tackle box full of Trad gear for cheap and now I am all set up. Iíve been shooting religiously for the last 2 months hoping this season I can connect on my first Trad deer. I have the opportunity to hunt 2 160Ē-170Ē bucks and 1 I feel pretty comfortable getting a 15-20 yd shot opportunity. He is a regular at one of the setups so hopefully I can add a kill with a Sacagawea to end my time with her opening wknd. I will make a few pig hunts over the next couple wks leading up to season as well.

Feels great to have this bow in my possession knowing who all has had it and the journey it has been on! Iíll update as much as possible. I took 12 shots just a few minutes ago. Unbelievable how smooth and quiet this bow shoots. Groups are currently 4Ē with an occasional drifter 5Ē-6Ē but I feel comfortable with it.

Last 3 months pigs have been coming in 12am-4am. This evening they showed up 7:21pm!!! Give them a couple days to see if itís a pattern. If so Sacagawea may be eating this week.

I did some 20 this evening. Can’t believe how smooth this bow shoots. I did have a couple arrows fly sideways like yours did in the pic you posted. I noticed my fingers were rolling the string a little.

No piggies this evening. One thing I like to do before I step down from a tree especially with trad gear is take some ďWhat IfĒ shots. I pick a leaf or something within my range 15 yds or so and shoot my arrows at it. I like to bring a tennis ball but didnít this time. I picked a leaf at 14-15 yds this evening and stacked the arrows on it. Really like the way this bow shoots.

So far, I've only read the first page of posts on this KILLER of an idea. I'm resisting the urge to skim through or skip to the last page, instead I intend to read every post from beginning to end. Right now I'm just hoping y'all all wrote as thoroughly as Chunky and Ron did. What a treasure to stumble upon. I'm only here because I finally got a traditional bow, haven't had one since I was a kid. Looking forward to many great Sacagawea stories!

I have a little less than 2 wks left with this gal. Doing a little shooting today prepping for next wknd opening day. Big buck is patterned and I feel really good that I will have a shot at him. I can’t wait!!!! Have a busy schedule the next 5 days so I won’t be able to take her to the stand any until Opening Day.

Not how I normally would set a pop up but was in a hurry. Didnít brush it in. We will see how they react later hopefully. My target has been in here the last 3 evenings. Had a couple encounters this morning but no shots. 13 yd shot if he repeats yesterday evenings footsteps. Just in case he doesnít want to play Traditional I will have the Triax close by. Will update this evening when I get settled around 5-5:15. Yesterday first pic on cam was 7:23 and he stayed 30 min.

My arrow this evening did this but I hit a small branch. Almost looked like the arrow came out sideways and at 10 yds angled a lot. My lighted nock came on and immediately went off before impact. Unfortunately it lodged into the bucks forward front shoulder/brisket. No blood whatsoever. Found him 30 minutes later running fine and with other bucks. Will see what tomorrow morning has in store. All I can do now is pray and tried to sleep.

I find it hard to know what to say in those situations. All of us go there at some point. Especially if you choose the discipline we have as it just raises the level of difficulty significantly. I just know how hard it is for me to deal with it personally. I'd like to say it's okay but when it happens to me it's not so I'll just leave it at I understand the frustration you must feel. However don't let it interfere with the next opportunity you have. I passed so many shots my second season of trad because I was so worried about wounding and losing another one.
Deer are capable of surviving worse wounds than what you've described so hopefully you'll see him again.

Sacagawea is now in route to CamoQuest as of yesterday! Man what a great bow she is. I was fortunate to find the buck I shot alive and ended his journey but with a compound bow at 22 yds. The wound from the arrow deflection was pretty nasty and the bucks shoulder joint would come out of his back when he ran. They are some tough animals. Super happy to have had another chance at him and I guess I can say I got him somewhat with Trad gear. Based on the angle the arrow went in and exited you can see how bad the deflection was angled up and left. I appreciate the opportunity and look for way to seeing everyone else’s journey with Sacagawea!

Sacajawea arrived today, and received quite the welcome. I donít think Iíve been that excited opening a box in years. Lots of thoughts went through my mind: what would she look like after all these years, how would it feel to hold a piece of history like this, would we get along, would I honor her and add worthy memories to her story...

The simple act of taking her from the case and seeing firsthand the craftsmanship that makes up this bow was a special feeling. Daniel was watching, and shared in the moment. It didnít take long before Sacajawea was put together, strung, and in my hand, headed out the door.

The first few shots I took were up close. I wasnít sure how my arrows would fly, but everything went smoothly. Then the mosquitoes attacked. And when I say attacked, I mean these things were so big they cast a shadow on the ground, and felt like horse flies. It is October, there is no call for 93 degrees, and the mosquitoes need to LEAVE.

My temporary solution was to pack up and head to Live Oakís indoor range. Thank goodness for ac and no bugs, lol!

I started from 10 yards, to get a feel for the bow. There were some left over targets on the wall that I took advantage of...

This was the second round of 6 arrows.

After moving back and shooting some from 20 yards, I moved up to 15, and felt good about how things were going. The arrows I had with me were a hair on the stiff side, but nothing drastic. After reading some of the previous shootersí experiences with the bow, I anticipated needing a lighter spine. Iíll have some built in a day or two, and go from there.

15 yards...

Iím excited at the prospect of adding to Sacajaweaís story, and look forward to the coming weeks.
