    I'm fairly confident I can string a recurve without a stringer without incident, but I choose to use a stringer to avoid problems as mentioned above.

      step through method for 50 yrs on a Bear Tigercat and 47 on a Wing Chaparral very often with out any problem. Maybe tomorrow.

          Been using the step thru method for 60 years and have never had a problem or damaged a bow.

            In scouts we teach the stringer method and the step through but the stringer method is recommended. However they don't treat their bows well and many have twisted limbs.

              The push-pull method didn't occur to me. I would never use that on a recurve or a longbow for that matter. The step through is just too effective not to use.
