Until then, we’ll pay more for the kids to go and do the Bahamas.
So, the bahamas is more a kid friendly place?

I like Puerto Vallarta. The beaches are only so-so but can go North about 15 minutes and they are good. Food is good and it is inexpensive.

only Danger I saw was Crocodiles at the Marina.

Rancho Leonero or the Hotel Spa BuenaVista are remote, they take care of you, and the fishing is great. About a 40 mile van ride out to them. If you will go to Houston or San Antonio now, you are no worse off in either Cabo or Cancun. Situational awareness is key in any city!!

Personally, I would go to the Bahamas and stay at Abaco Lodge for a week, be totally spoiled, and chase bonefish every day.
That Abaco Lodge looks great. However, my wife will only fish maybe one day and then she wants to relax.

          Doesn't look too "spot on".
I should have been more clear when I added that link, my apologies. If you scroll through that blog you will see that the cartel violence leaks into resort towns often. I cannot imagine a time when the cartels would directly attack a resort however there are examples of hits taking place on and near resorts. An assassination on a beach at a resort by two guys on a jet ski, and the ferry boat bomb at Playa just to name a couple. One stray round from an AK can destroy a family forever. Mexico just isn't worth it right now. Hopefully it get's better in the future. Again, sorry to be unclear in my previous post, I just don't want to see American's hurt in Mexico.

Agree 100%. Anywhere in Mexico is dangerous/corrupt. Recent news was El Chapo bribed Ex President with $100MM. People say don't worry about it, nowhere is safe. I'm a lot safer where I can carry my pistol. I can't carry in Mexico. I'm not going south of the border again. Plenty of nice places other than Mexico.

I guess I will look other places. The cheap stuff in Mexico seemed like a good deal. Thanks fellas, if you have any picks for the caribbean or bahamas let me know

Man search Mexico vacations and I promise there are multiple post of me saying don’t worry about safety. My last visit to Cabo is when the Hyatt hotel incident happened and I blew it off. Then my post #7 happened and changed my perspective. I agree with everyone above that there is a 95% chance of no issue but is it worth it? I am certain I will be back but it seems to be hot at the moment. I have been to every location mentioned at least 6 times but is it worth it at the moment?
Any of the Saints ..VI are awesome and reality is they are prettier than Mexico. A little more expensive but awesome. My personal favorite is St Thomas the wife would say Barbados. In regards to hotel/ resort it depends on what you want. A happening seen with people or laid back and quiet. Then start asking questions from there.
For the guys saying S could happen anywhere which I agree with can they say they have been in a shoot out or S happened the day they arrived a couple hotels down? I will go back just not at the moment.

If you want to fish Talk her into Cabo still very pretty.. think desert cactus and mountains with nice beaches but the current is so strong you cannot get in the water.
In regards to safety between family and friends we have been all around both 100s of times with no concern. Less than two weeks ago my MIL and FIL ended up in the middle of a shoot out in Isle of Mujeres (basically Cancun) between drug dealers. When I say in the middle shooter at 4' and them pulling tables on top of them and FIL laying on top her. I am one to agree with anything can happen anywhere at anytime but this one hit a little to close to home and I am not sure when we will be back. As mentioned spend a few more bucks and head to one of the Caribbean islands.
                      This is crazy.
                      Glad everybody is ok.

Yes, we feel completely safe when there. We are only going to Mexico to celebrate our marriage there. I can’t say enough good things about the Bahamas. Personal driver that shows up within a couple minutes of texting him, we go all over the island (Nassau), eat at restaurants outside the resort, golf, fish, scuba, etc. also the resort has a kids club that my 7 yr olds beg to go to everyday. Think it runs from 10-4 and they do arts/crafts, blah blah! It’s very nice but more expensive than Mexico.

Check out Meliá Nassau or Baha Mar. we like Meliá better, it’s smaller and quieter. It’s next door to Baha and they will take you over on a golf cart if you want to go gamble. I wouldn’t get sucked in to the Atlantis propaganda. It’s expensive and a tourist trap, also crowded.

I wouldn't let the fears of a couple of people drive you. I have traveled a lot and the only place I really felt unsafe was in Paris and I lived in Saudi Arabia for awhile. The point is if you do stupid things then stupid things happen. There are bad places everywhere in nearly every town, there are parts of Houston I won't go to so I don't go. Bahamas is a cool place with lots to do but you are going to have people try and sell you herbs all the time, same with Jamaica. Grand Caymans is okay but was without a doubt my most boring destination I have ever been. If you are on a budget and Mexico is a no go for you then look into Punta Cana I have never been but have several friends that have gone and enjoyed themselves.
