I am wanting to build a do all Texas rifle. I do reload and have narrowed it down to the following:

7mm-08
260 Rem
6.5x 284

Right now I am leaning towards the 6.5x284 because of the muzzle velo.

Any input on the 6.5x284 as a hunting rifle? Planned to run the 140 Berger in it.

That's where I'm at other than the 6.5x284.

Leaning towards the 260 still but plan on doing more research when I get back to work

Had a 260..one hole gun. Dang money problems.

Doesn't matter really.

As I understand it now I can have either in short BUT may limit myself in bullet weight/length in the 260?

260 will work in a short with light bullets but would benefit from an extended mag box.

6.5x284 needs long action IMO.

Straight up hunting rifle I like 6.5x284

I cant seat Bergers out in my SA where they need to be without single loading rounds. I will build my next one on a long action.

Went in to the shop in November and got a 6.5 build going. Awesome staff, couldn’t have made me feel more comfortable. Also, I would have to say that for someone that isn’t a gun expert by any means they didn’t make me feel dumb or out of place at all. That being said maybe I should have waited two months for this amazing deal.

Best Caliber Recommendations capable of: Taking down the occasional Whitetail when I don't have the stick and string; reaching out and touching Nilgai, Elk, etc; and readily capable of hitting steel at 1,000.
