Default Galaxy Ember and Manderin Black Hunter

1. Do these two bows have interchangeable parts? Lancaster says the Black Hunter limbs wont fit the Ember but I am really wanting 60lb limbs.

2. What is everyone's hunting weight at their draw length? (not what bow is marked at, unless its the same)

I ask the second question cause I am pulling about 48lbs on the ember longbow and it is flinging my 556grain arrow at 162 fps. Would you hunt hogs/elk/moose with that?

I shoot 50# at my DL, and yes, I have or would hunt every one of the animals you listed!!!

That being said, if I could shoot 60#, I would. I believe a guy should hunt with the most draw weight he can shoot accurately under the pressure of a hunting situation!!!!

I can pull 60# all day. My challenge is I cannot get limbs for the Ember in anything high then 55lbs at 28inches. I draw 27ish....puts me at 48-50lbs.

I bought and sold a Black Hunter that was marked at 60lbs so I know they make the limbs.

Yes sir, the black hunter comes in 60lb. I bought mine from lancaster and they have the "ember" which only comes in 55lbs. Thats what got me asking the question...

I dont know about the bows you mentioned.

I do know that I shoot 540gr arrows from a 48# @ 27 and would hunt anything on this continent with it.

I have the Galaxy Ember and Black Hunter. Both are 35#, had to lower weight with bad roto cuff. Looks like they WILL interchange on mine.

Will do if I ever unstring them. Order one from Amazon, and if it doesn't fit they will take it back!

I run a pro shop in the Hill Country and I am bringing in Trad gear!!

So I get dealer price from them and Lancaster Warranty. BUT, I will keep that in mind.

After some good research today, I did find out something:

Not all bows (or lbs of pull) are created equal.
——- i know of a 61lb bow that shoots same grain arrow at 177 FPS. Normally I wouldn’t think about 15 FPS but that’s 13lbs heavier draw!!

Yes there are definitely reasons bows, like anything else, have price break points.

That $180 bow will kill anything the $800 one will.

I think you are fine with that arrow speed and weight for deer, elk, moose within 25 yards. Just make sure you're shooting a two blade for the elk and moose. I'm not big on the single vs. double bevel thing, but in that situation a single bevel will help on elk or moose ribs.

Yep, not all bows are created equal. Most inexpensive bows will kill just the same.

But more expensive bows often have one advantage other than being prettier. Draw profile, effeciency, and grip comfort. I have a 50# longbow that is a terrible shooter... shocks the crap out of you and doesnt hit very hard and stacks like a librarian. I pick up my widow, and I don't feel the weight until a dozen shots later. It is so smooth and hits hard. Plus, its purdy and comfy as hell.

I recently picked up a mesa longbow ($230) and I like that thing. Doesn't hit as hard, but mid grade smooth and almost no shock for a longbow that light.

Certainly most bows can kill just the same... but some bows are more comfortable to bring into the field with you.

You should only lose about 2-3#/inch, depending on the bow. If you got 55# limbs, and you draw 27”, you should be at about 51-53#.

Now, if your DL is actually 26”, then you should be at 48-50#.

Hey Bisch! I pull probably lose to 26.5 to 27 (remeasured after last night). And I am pulling right at 50lbs. I would love to be at 54lbs, but last night I sent one from the ember through the back straps of a Aoudad Ewe with and it went to the fletching. She will for sure live but I think I have enough to get the job done. If I pursue elk or moose with this weight, I will likely go to a two blade stinger...

So the black dot was last nights shot, laced her just under the skin. The red dot was tonight and I got about 4inches of penetration. So that does beg the question about poundage...but I think this is a shot placement challenge.

Both of those shot placements lead to unrecovered animals a large percentage of the time. The red dot is probably backstrap, and too high to be a vital hit. If it was backstrap, he’ll probably live too, unless he gets an infection.

High is almost always bad! As my good friend Chunky used to say: “I’d rather miss one low than hit one high!”

Sorry for your luck on this hunt. Better luck next time out!!!!

X2 what Bisch said. Poundage would not have helped with those shot placements.

Low is always best. Even when you get under the spine... blood trails become a challenge.

I find that aiming low with a trad bow is hard to do mentaly. So it is easier said than done!

Hope you have a another crack at em down the road... an Awe-dad is at the top of my "want" list.

A buddy just got one of those black hunters to start with. Guess he got brainwashed with all the purdy picks of my tradbow over the years for the money it certainly seems like a good deal! I thought wow that was $100? Shooot lol

I just reached out to Twig Archery and they did an amazing job testing two sets of limbs for me so that I can shoot 51# to 53# at 26.5 inches...

I am very excited.
