Default Do you think it the wrong thing to do??

I few years ago I invaded a family friend to come out and shoot an old cull buck on one of my places. He had recently kicked off his lease do to the land owner wanted his family hunt there. So I felt bad for him and let him come hunt for FREE. He ended up putting up 2 feeders and stands and has been letting his kids hunt out there. I was fine with it for the kids sake as long as they where only shooting mature bucks. Come to find out that is not really the case. His son shot a 3.5 year old 10 pointer the first year and his daughter shot at 4.5 8 pointer and hit it in the breast and never recover the deer. He "does not have time" to fill feeders and put protein out in the off season. I have seen a really nice mature 10 pointer at his feeder this year. My question is, would you hunt his feeder if all the buck that where coming to your feeder have been shot already?? Or would it be the wrong thing to do?

IMHO, he's not much of a friend. I'd do as others have suggested, either tell him to leave, or start charging him. Frankly, I'd just tell him to leave.

Good luck,

Dave

Ask him "Would you mind if i shot this ten off your feeder if I don't remove your **** from my lease?"

Or ..stick your own feeder next to his.. and shoot the animal.

The question you should be asking yourself is why are you sharing your honest feelings about the matter with a bunch of strangers on the internet, when you really should be talking to a guy who is supposed to be your "friend".......

From the OP it sounds like, a one time cull hunt was taken advantage of and stretched into an annual free family lease without even helping out of courtesy.

It seems obvious to me that the "friend" has stretched any reasonable bounds to only his benefit.

Whether the OP hunts the stand or kicks him off only seems to depend on how close that family friend is to the OP. No matter what is done (other than leaving his setup alone), friend will be hurt unless he is simply allowed a lifetime free family lease.

He is not really my friend. He was an old out side sales rep that my dad and uncle became good friends with. He then bought one of our sister companies and has become better friends with my dad and uncle after purchasing the other company that we had.

What I would do is go to your dad and uncle and explain the situation since he is more their friend than yours, especially if hard feelings could create a negative working relationship for your dad or uncle. Explain that you invited him a few years to come out and shoot a cull buck since he no longer had a lease and he has basically moved in with no financial compensation for the spot on the lease. Plus he isn't following the rules so if he was a member you would have to usher him out the gate anyway. Let them know that you will be getting with him to remove his personal stuff since he isn't a lease member and you were letting them know as a courtesy to them.

It’s kinda strange to let him set up on the property without being a member or paid hunter. If you invited him to dinner would you let him calm a bedroom in your house? I bet not. Must be more to the story.

Dang Drycreek you made me laugh on that one. I have thought about leasing a place about an hour from me but I sure remember all the drama, grief and heartaches.

THIS is a great example of why so many land owners either say NO or are very hesitant to give others permission to hunt their land...not in all cases, but particularly in this one!

I gave permission to a guy to BOW HUNT only on my small place outside Granbury years past. All I asked was to let me know when he was coming out, pick up any trash and close all gates since I had horses. To make a long story short, he violated EVERY simple request I had so after a month...told him to STAY off or I would call the SO for trespassing!

I would NOT hesitate for one second to end your situation! Nice gesture and as happens too many times...you got taken advantage of...END IT!

You may be the nicest chap on tbh...you op sounds like it was just invited to come hunt a cull & I would have barked once he showed with a feeder, but don't know the details.

Go shoot that deer & set limitations and/or ask him to remove his stuff if he is not agreeable to your wishes. Remember, you are in charge & do not need to be bashful regardless of the relationship.

I would tell him to not come back until I killed the big 10 and then I would supply him game cam pics of deer he could take and pics of what is off limits. If he messes that up once then he is gone.

Is the land your land or family land? (Dad, Uncle). If it's your land have a talk about what you will allow to be killed. If he takes advantage of the rules then goodbye, or if you simply want him off your property then let him know.
