Not sure if you have a 12 guage but that almost looks like a 20 gauge got dropped down the barrel of a 12.

They don't own a 20ga. So I doubt that's what caused it. She saved the empty and all the rest of the shells.

Looks like some type of barrel obstruction to me. Really hard to blow up a shotgun with any loads much less dove loads.

Looks like a wad got stuck in the barrel. I've personally seen it happen 3 times. Usually it's a little farther down the barrel but the situation was the same. Out hunting, shooting the gun repeatedly and then bam, done.

Next step? Contact the manufacturer and see what a set of barrels and a forearm would cost. Maybe check the gun auctions and see if they have barrels and forearms listed by chance.

Had something similar happen to my beretta. Didn’t break a hole but stretched the metal to a good bulge. Sent to beretta and said most likely a hung wad and offered a slight discount (about 25% off listed price) on replacement barrels. As much as we all shoot, we all don’t check barrel after every shot like they say to.

When I break one of my O/U's over to reload I always see down the barrels

OP glad your daughter is okay. But to me that looks like obstruction caused that blow up.

So the force of the previous shot going off doesn’t blow the wad out the barrel but the lead shot does?
Is this how the wad hangs in a barrel?
