    Broken clay BBQ pit

Okay I have a problem. I have a clay BBQ pit that works great. Last week I put too much firewood in it and the lid cracked from the heat. Is there anything I can use to seal the crack on the lid? It still works. The only thing holding the lid together is a metal band that goes around it.

It didn't melt. It just cracked down the middle.

This is where it cracked. The red line indicates the crack. The only thing holding it together is a metal ring just like the bottom part of it.

I think I am gonna try the firebrick mortar. Can hurt I guess. It is already cracked. I really want to save it, even cracked this pit stores so much eat it is unbelieveable. In my opinion it stores more heat than a metal pit.

I don't believe mortar will do the trick. Mortaring stationary bricks together is different than trying to permanently cement movable pieces. Good luck.

I used Rutland Furnace Cement to repair a broken plate setter in a BGE. It held up for a few years

I would try and find a high heat glue/epoxy then try and tie wire around the outside diameter to keep it together.
