And this buck does have 7 drop tines, but once the velvet comes off, 3 of those drops don't look like they will be that substantial. Depending on where and how you mount him, those 7 drops may not really stand out, which is the main reason for wanting to kill him.

Will that buck ever have that many drops again? Will they be bigger next year? Will he be the next 270"+ buck from the ranch?

But at the same time, you have to remember why your doing all of this in the first place. And killing a big buck that "does it for you" is the ultimate goal.
Never know about the drops, but he doesn't have enough going on to get to 270 later in life. He's probably stuck in a 30 inch window on the high side right now.

Doubt he will get more than 10-15 inches bigger. Doubt he will get more than 20" smaller. But the potential to treat water or go down is pretty high...

I have him around 210.
120" down
65" up (typical frame) and 25" of extras

Here is a pic of Mrs. Stedmans's deer I mentioned earlier. They have a lot of similarities in their racks. Hers has 6 drops and one broken off.

If you surely want him to survive, just let me hunt him and he will for sure last at least another 3-4 years.

I doubt seriously that I will kill him. I bet you I hunt him 20 times to try to get good pictures.

That deer is surely impressive. I didn't realize he would score that much until I started adding everything up that he has going on. I got 203" roughly but I am no expert. Have to say, this deer's sheds look better than a wall mount and you have a little room left on that table!

Is TUCO's buck still kicking?

Man, I wish I had problems like this! This is like winning the lottery and asking what do I do with all this money.

Just kidding, Just kidding

I am sure you know what to do. You seem to have growing giant deer figured out.

If it were me I would walk him. At 5 yro he still has some seeds to sow.

Alright, that does it.... I'd shoot that sob if I was you

I know your genetics are all native, with no imported deer. But I know that the deer breeder Marty Berry has always claimed to have a pure south Texas deer herd. One of the main looks that his deer has is multiple drop tines off the end of their main beams like this buck does.... I'm just mentioning this, because he had to start with some foundation deer from somewhere and I'm just really curious if any of those deer came from your general region. It would be really neat to be able to make that connection.... anyway congrats on another awesome monster, and post up some of your other trail camera photos.

Wow, I know you have shot much higher scoring (pretty amazing you can say that because i think that buck is 212 plus) but that would be an amazing character trophy with shock factor. Congrats on growing one that really has everyone excited to see more pics.

For the life of me I cant find a picture with his ears stretched out. He looks wider than last year, and I thought he was around 25-26.

Our place has a 6.5 rule on trophies with a 5.5 exception for 180" or better.....but that's our place. Tough call, but if everyone's on board, what's one more year gonna hurt? Short of losing him to natural, or oilfield worker, causes...

Let him walk, over to my place. After much thought I've decided what I would do. Seriously, that is an incredible deer, and most people will never get a chance at one of that caliber. With that said, do you have other older deer like that to hunt? are you sure he'd improve? A lot of variables to consider. GL. D

I am thinking he is 28-29" wide and that right brow REALLY took off. You know your deer better then anyone, do they typically make their biggest jump from 4 to 5? If so, I would consider shooting him for the cool factor. Obviously from a breeding perspective it won't have much effect if you leave him or not for an extra year. I totally understand leaving a deer like that out there. Its hard to put them back once you pull the trigger and is always kind of bittersweet on a deer like that. I have him at 120" frame alone

I was wondering what happened to you...was hoping you had another just leaving the velvet stage for this year.

Haven't hunted once this season but getting closer to having all the work completed. Maybe the weather will soon follow...the guys that are putting in blind time just are not getting any movement thus far.

What great deer lines you have there. It looks like there is no shortage of shooters on your place and this one is special so I hope he gets to live another year or so. Good luck, I'm sure you will make the right decision and thanks for sharing.
