Default Trespasser (Long Read)

Was cutting some cedars on my place in Collin County for a plot and noticed a guy walking the fence line on my side of the fence. He proceeded to come introduce himself and let me know that he had just set up a feeder in the opening right behind my food plot. He said he was staying with his parents while his wife and he were split and they said they never see anyone back there, so that made it ok. He asked if i wanted him to take it off and put on his parents property behind their barn. I politely said yes and proceeded to tell him that there are a ton of spots i would love to put a feeder that I dont own, but wouldn't because its not my property! Well fast forward to the next evening and i walk out there to find he moved the feeder alright. But just inside the tree line and still on my place, then I found his pop up brushed in about 20 yrds away. At this point I am furious, proceed to take down the pop up, and write him a sweet little note on the feeder. The problem is, their house is 50yrds through the trees from the plot I was putting in. Should i still do it in the hopes that this bafoon doesn't sneak out when i am not there and try to hunt it? At this point I just want to stomp his little *** and no he is not a child, the guy is probably late 20's. People have no respect for other peoples stuff!

He will probably hunt it. Hidden trail camera and a call to the GW would be my next step....

I'd put up a sign stating tress passers will be shot. Even though I probably wouldn't actually shoot them. It would sure make them think.... : )

If he didn't listen the first time, hes unlikely to listen a second. I would contact the GW, and set up some TC's, I have a feeling he will be back

Shame on his parents, but he's a grown man and should know better. I'd try to resolve it one more time then the law would be called.

My first calls would be to the Game Warden and the Sherriff first and foremost and let them come out and see the stuff on your place and then maybe you will own a new popup and feeder. Definitely let them know you have already discussed it with the guy politely and neighborly. I would also set up and conceal plenty of game cameras around to catch him or anyone from over there trespassing and set up no trespassing signs in clear sight for them.

The edge of the plot is 50 yrds from their fence. The stand will be well over a 100 yrds or so and there are two Stands of trees between my stand and their fence.

Have the gw come look at it and go have a talk with the guy. That away gw knows to keep an eye out for him during season.

Just call the sheriff and see if they will come out and talk to you and go explain it to him. This is tresspassing at this point so not really game warden area until he is there actually hunting.

Maybe you should send him an aerial that outlines your property. He sounds like an idiot so it's going to be tough to deal with him. I doubt he knows where his parents property ends.

I see it as his parents fault, for telling him,

that is were I would go speak to the Parents\Owners. then call GW and esplain it...to him

Certainly not the case, their property is maybe a half an acre with no trees and fenced on all three sides, but not on the road. Also their "lot" is clear and their "our" fence line is just outside of the tree line. He knows exactly what he is doing and even name dropped on who he thought owned my property that he put his feeder on.

I would have another conversation with him, a firm , no threatening, and no BS one. Show him where the property line is, put a few T posts in the ground with one strand of wire and hang signs on it. Tell him this is the last warning you will give, next will be sheriff and game warden. It's best to try to be decent with your neighbors. The worst situation is neighbors who hate each other. Sooner or later I can almost guarantee you will need each other in some form or fashion

Yeah, some people weren't raised right. Knock on wood, haven't had trouble in a long time. somebody cleared and built a house on the adjoing property and the trespassing stopped.

I don't blame you, I'd be livid! I known it's difficult not to wanna throw the book at him. But I would take pics, post signs, and give him one more stern talk making absolutely clear you won't tolerate this. After that it happens again then anything goes. Good luck on this deal

Get you a deer costume. Wait for him. Plug him. Dress him up. Call the GW and tell him you had no idea it was a guy in a deer costume. Who would do such a dangerous thing?

I doubt he knows the penalty for shooting across a fence onto another's property. He really needs to have that expalined to him by a GW because you know if he sees a deer over on your place he will shoot.

I'm surprised you didn't take everything he put up on your property when you found out he didn't remove it. I'd have just taken it all. He would have to come ask very nicely if he wanted it back. And I'd explain to him again that if he was caught on the property again he'd be in jail.

I'm kinda surprised and a little shocked that the guy had the huervos to ask if he needed to move his blind. Pretty crazy.

A few years ago, I believe it was east Tx, a kid killed an entire family sleeping in their travel trailer. The kid/young man was upset the family had bought land from his family and he couldn't use the land anymore. People are nuts.

Since you still have not started if your property is legally posted,,

You should get a gallon of purple paint, and paint everywhere you can. ( check the regulations for size ),, and put up signs.

That way you are covered in the eyes of the law.

I understand your frustration, but you must take steps to CYA.

How much do you want for the pop-up and feeder he left?

Keep in mind you might need to access their property to retrieve a monster buck you shot in the plot that jumped the fence in his last breath.
