Thats where I stayed during my daughters garner hunt and there were an incredible number of axis between there and where you are now. Literally hundreds. You are in good country for sure. Saw axis the entire time I was there.

Most of the morning I was surrounded by turkeys, nothing "on the menu," I'm headed back to camp for breakfast and to boil some rice for the axis.

That looks really close to where I hunted. The biggest axis seen was under a feeder on private land literally 100 yards or so from where i hunted. I only saw white tail and pig

edit: Looked closer. I drew a blind that was at the intersection of those two angled roads that pass the house. The axis were near the end of the road toward the river in the old park

I didn't think that was part of the park but know they hunt on places out of the main park as well.

Did I miss something? Do you mix it with pea gravel and put it in the feeder, or just set the pot next to the alfalfa bales?

The park staff told us yesterday that they have video of Axis (does) "bumping each other out of the way" fighting over boiled rice that one of the hunters (I believe it was David's daughter) put out on somewhat of a whim. LOL!

I had to run to town yesterday so I picked up a 10# bag of white rice! I infused it with some of the alfalfa that blew all over everything on the ride down! LOL!

Mo is napping while I'm walking around gathering rocks for the feeder!

My first experience with SP game was whitetail at PK. The ranger told me they would eat anything you offered them, "probably eat a T-bone if you are willing to give one up!", he said.
Can't wait to see what she smokes over the new bait!

Go Mo!

When I hunted Chaparral WMA, baiting was not allowed. But the ranger said there was nothing wrong with peeling an apple on the way to your stand.

That rice looks yummy.

Good luck Michaela!

She is hunting the same feeder I hunted last month. I gave up on it after not seeing any deer for 2 sits.

In the bottom left you will see 2 blind icons. That area was loaded with axis sign (trails, scat, a nice shed). They travel to/from the river in that area. I used a Ghostblind and saw axis on both afternoon sits. The deer were extremely skittish. I was impatient and made a poor shot. Still sick over it....

Oh yeah....the turkeys are everywhere. At one time I had 23 toms within 30 yds of my Ghostblind. If they did a draw turkey hunt there it would be epic!

I'm standing here in the park, near the scenic overlook, scouting the other side of the river.

Based on Vermin93's suggestion, we decided to take a look in that area before it was fully dark. As we rounded the corner to parallel the river, we saw a large herd of Axis looking at us at about 40 yards as they were coming from the river.

We moved Mo's setup to that area for tomorrow morning.

I'll pretty much be able to follow her hunt from across the river tomorrow!
