This deer has been on our radar for about 4 years now. My wife named him Razor back then and it's been HER deer since then. After some discussion during the summer it was decided she could shoot him this year but only with a bow. So all summer we practiced in the back yard getting ready for her chance. Well with my guiding schedule our opportunities to get out in the field are slim. So Sunday after I got back from guiding a quail hunt we headed out to the stand for an afternoon sit.
About 15 min after the feeder went off Razor along with about 5 does and yearlings made their way in. It took about 20 min for a shot opportunity to present itself but she made it count. I ranged him at 23 yards and as she came to full draw he made the mistake of moving his front leg forward and she tucked it in that elbow perfectly.
He ran about 50 yards before laying down and expiring. To say she was excited was an understatement.
Pretty dang good deer for her first with a bow. I could not be any prouder of her. She practiced this summer and made sure she was ready. It was definitely one of my most memorable and exciting hunts I have been on.
Final Score: 189 3/8"
