By the pictures you've hot that knife too hot; if the tang is that red you've have some serious grain grown in that knife.... it it's yellow it's tooooo hot.

I have a question for you.
I was Heat Treating some spur rowels the other day, they were all heat treated at the same time from the same piece of Steel and tempered in the same oven at 400 degrees. Two of them came out Brown and two came out blue, do you know why that is?
