A couple of weeks ago we noticed that a bird had built a nest in a shrub only a couple feet away from our utility room window. First time I saw the mama I thought it was probably a female cardinal but I wasn't sure. The baby had just hatched, so our son - who is starting to get interested in photography - sat at the window for hours to chronicle this little cardinal family as they brought the young one along.
We noticed both mom and dad would fly around to our backyard feeder and load up to bring food to junior.
"Hey Pops - did you bring any chow?"
"Come on Daddy-O I'm Hungry, how bout' a little somethin"?
FEED ME!
For a couple days the chick hopped around on the edge of the nest testing it's wings.
"All right Junior, time for your first flight lesson!"
We came home and the nest was empty. Mom, Dad and the little one were perched high up in a tree close by - I guess the flight lessons went well!
