Last weekend I made my first trip to actually hunt my new lease in Oklahoma. It started slow Saturday morning with only a hog sighting and no shot opportunity. After a sandwich and a siesta I was back in the stand. About 5:15 I hear a sneeze and look over to find a couple of does feeding toward me on the hand corn I put out. Slowly they were getting in range. I was about to draw back when not one but two armadillos came rooting around. Combine that with the wind and the deer took off. Fast forward to 6:30 I look over and the does are coming back in. This time there were about 5 making their way to me. The first in line made it to 17 yards out when the deer behind her spooked and bolted. I drew back as she began to turn, settled the pin and let the arrow fly. Looked like a good hit and I heard her crash about 40 yards in front of me. .
Arrow looked good and I went to where I thought she crashed and sure enough there she was
Right after my shot the cows started coming through the trees so I guess that's why the deer bolted. My freezer was getting bare so thank the Good Lord for the opportunity to bring home sausage and backstraps.
