Thank you for the info. I probably don't have to much to worry about. This is my first year out there. My previous lease sold without any notice in August. Scouted two weeks before season and found a lot of sign in my area. Unfortunately, I haven't so much as caught a deer or hog on my game camera. You really think you know how to hunt until you get on public land...

The Peroxide tip is cool, I've never heard it being used for blood trailing.

I’ve heard of it . Just never used it . You may need gallons of peroxide if it’s not a good bleeder. Lol

Same here. The unexpected afternoon rain didn't help either.

Asking for some help.

The cagle campground is full the weekend I want to go. How do the primitive spots work?

The ones you can't make a reservation on. Are you able to show up and pitch a tent?

Or do I just need to get a hotel room?

Hopedale- you won't have any trouble finding a spot to camp in the primitive Hunters Camps, should be plenty of room available this time of year.

Last I checked, the checkpoints are only applicable for the first 2 Saturdays of general season this year

I have seen quite a few deer so far this season, mostly does and small bucks, but I have not been able to get a shot off. I had two different encounters with does this past week, in both situations the deer came right to the base of my tree, caught my ground scent and the rest was history.

The deer are finally starting to lay down some good sign. So things should start to heat up in a couple weeks.

We had decent movement this weekend saw 7. Had a big horse headed doe at 25 yards but no shot. Had a D-mack '11' point special at 10 yards but I was not going to use a buck tag on him. Heard a group of pigs in the brush squealing and carrying on. Saturday's movement was better than Sunday's. A couple of does but nothing presented a good shot. may be next month before getting back out unless I get off work early for an evening hunt. Good luck and congrats Piney on the doe.

Just pointing the new guy to friendlier woods! I wish someone would've told me to stop wasting my time n the East side years ago

Saw one doe out in the wind on Friday evening, didnt get closer than ~80 yds. Obligations had me tied up rest of the wknd.....

And no, I don't hunt the DCNF

Good to hear, wasn't sure if that creaking I was hearing was from the trees in the wind or those old joints of yours lol. And I feel pretty good, slept nicely when I got back home that's for sure. Good day once all was said and done.

Some of the spots are a little overgrown, but theres plenty. Opening weekend I showed up at 6pm the friday before and easily found a spot.

There are 3 or 4 good bucks in the Davy, but they all bed on Garguys property. Too many meth heads and hillbillies up there for me to risk bustin brush up that way

After 2 years I got a spike down Monday afternoon - really tough hunt but ecstatic how it turned out! I had to leave an area I scouted since last spring because forest service is doing work in the area. I had one weekend to scout out a new area and it paid off!

Hope yall are enjoying the great weather, I'm stuck behind a desk writing papers. This week has me doing about 50 pages of writing research, so I won't be out except for maybe tomorrow morning and part of Saturday. Next week might be the same issue which sucks, cause the chasing is starting to pick up and the shumareds are starting to drop more heavily. Good luck everyone.
