I'm always willing to trade but has to be something in in for me unless it's something I really want. If he's doing something that he charges 2k for usually or I get 2k cash I'm taking the cash I can pay him or anyone else. You kinda limit your options. Now if it's something that would cost 3k and I'm giving him something worth 2k because he doesn't have the cash I'd be interested.

I dont reckon I have ever seen one of them "deals" pan out. Probably be best to sell it out right.

This is what I thought too

This situation is ripe for problems down the road.

Just sell it for all cash and be done

If he paints your house, rehangs 2 doors, and builds a deck for 2k he isn't doing it for the money.

I didn't add the deck into the 2k. I figured...
500 for the doors, because we talked about it
~1500 to paint the house/fix boards etc.

labor only.. we would provide all materials.

Think about this deal carefully. Then don't do it. If there are 20 things that can happen and the best of the lot is that it goes just OK, I wouldn't trust the odds.

The deal was he does labor. I buy the materials.

Why not have him pay full price for the vehicle, then when he performs the tasks, he get's his money back? Or can he just not swing the full price?

I would only do this deal if I was getting 3k worth of labor for a 2k price. Plus cash up front for the vehicle and it doesn't get released until all debts are settled in writing.

                            Cash deal!
So many things wrong with this kind of barter deal.

Haha yeah that's def possible, I've learned the hard way about paying someone before they are done with their work, won't ever do that again..
