Chest or Upright Freezer....???

I like my upright biggest reason is organization and not having to dig around to find what I'm looking for

Edit: mine is a Frigidaire I bought from Lowe's for 500 I think have had it 5 yrs no issues

Have an upright now after having a chest before. Next will be another chest. I can organize a chest almost as good, it will hold way more without falling out when opening, and is better for heads waiting to go to taxi.

Upright for organization. I have a frigidaire form Lowes. It was around $5-600
I would like a chest freezer for just ice and storing dear heads or other animals waiting to go to the taxi.
I would get a upright if your wanting keep up with what meat you have.

Bought a new frost free upright last week on sale at Home Depot for under $500. The old one has been around for 20 plus years and finally stopped holding temp. I went with the upright for all the reasons listed above, primarily organization and space. Don't like digging around in a chest type.

I have a chest and two large uprights. If you want organization and ability to quickly grab what you're looking for go upright. I've had my two GE uprights for 10-15 years and have never had a single thing fall out when opening like others have mentioned. As long as you're organized and pay attention to how you stack packages, you will not have that issue.

My chest is primarily used to store ice.

I have had both chest and upright. I will never purchase another chest freezer. Hate the bending over for long lengths of time looking for specific things. Way more organization on the upright.

Personally I would get the upright. Takes up less room being vertical, and is much easier to sort through. I have an upright specifically for wild game, and I can put quite a bit of meat in there. To me, a chest is almost a headache. You throw meat on top of meat, and usually end up having do a lot of "digging" just to get what you're after. Another thing I love about them is being able to store deer heads/mounts that I'm not ready to send to a taxidermist yet. I've held ducks, a mature 10pt buck, full bodied bobcat, all on top of deer meat/fish! Just my .02 though, hope this helps!

Matter of preference, but I like my chest freezer. It is true that things get "lost" or forgotten in the bottom, but that is my own fault. One thing to consider though for meat storage in a "frost -free". The internal temperatures can fluctuate quite a bit when it goes through the defrost cycle (maybe some appliance specialists can explain better). But this is not good for frozen meat. When you open a chest type, all of the cold dense heavy air doesn't "pour " out like an upright. I have forgotten my chest type open overnight and the items on top were still frozen.

Anyway, organization is the main issue. If you use frequently like the convenience, the upright does have a chest type beat.

I like having one of each personally. The chest for storage of capes and bulk ice. The upright for organized storage of meat.

The one advantage to the chest is should your freezer fail, the chest will hold the cold air in much better and provide you a little more time to fix the issue before meat spoilage becomes a problem.

Upright. With a slight tilt so the door swings closed slowly. (don't ask why I suggest this)
I'd probably put a hasp or latch on it also, verify that it is indeed closed.
