If you have it touching your going to wear out your stop prematurely

Ummm, that is what it is for. Can't stop the string without touching the stop. Even when the string is a credit card away the string will hit the stop on the shot. Having the string touch the stop does not cause it to wear faster just causes the bow to be a little quieter.

Kind of like saying don't use your breaks on your car because they will wear faster.
