Default Who isnt Hunting Tomorrow??

Lets be honest.. The Texas archery season is basically the worst time to hunt deer in Texas.. If it were 3 weeks earlier it would be amazing. But its right after the bucks rub and stop running around in bachelor groups.. They stop hitting corn for the most part at my place and the acorns are on the ground.. Not to mention the fact that you really dont know what kind of bucks you have until the rut.. I only bowhunt.. So Basically the whole season is my bow season so I have no emotional attachment to the first day. Does anyone else feel this way?? This will be like year 10 of skipping opening morning.. Basically since trail cams got good and i realized it was a waste of time

I should be at work, I have a lot that needs to be done. But I have a lot of stuff that needs to be done around the house, so that is where I will be tomorrow. A buddy is letting me borrow his tractor for a week, going to see how much I can get done in a week.

I missed opening wknd once since I started bow hunting in 1990.
It was 2016. My Dad was in bad shape and died on the 2nd. I bet he was mad I didn’t go.

First year Iíll be missing opening day. Back in May, I was asked to cook for a surprise birthday party and not realizing the day, I said yes. So in a few hours, Iíll be firing up the pit and cooking 6 briskets, 15 slabs of ribs, and 10 lbs of sausage. Also will cook the potatoes, beans, and BBQ sauce.
Good luck to yíall that are hunting.

I will be in Huntsville tomorrow for SHSU "Parents Day". The following weekend my wife is going to some wine festival in New Braunfels so I will be home with my son. Hopefully all of this rain and heat will stop by the 3rd weekend of the season when I will be able to go.

Had a bumper crop of acorns last year. Absolutely killed the bow season for me. This year there are hardly any in the trees at my place. Last few years my brother and buddies killed deer on opening day of rifle while I had to be at drill for the guard. One year my brother shot a buck out of my stand while I was at drill!! Talk about sacrifices for our country! Haha. I told my CO if they keep this up Iím starting a mutiny! Haha.

I have a good feeling about this year. Took a week off work and plan on shooting my first mature buck in a few years. I think I have one patterned but weíll see. Checked camera photos real quick this evening and thereís this super wide, funky 6 running around. He may be a six but heís a hoss. Lots of meat for the freezer. Haha

Don’t ever hunt bow season here in Texas cause I’m too busy with other things. Spend most September bird hunting and getting all of my rifles and gear ready for elk and mule deer out of state for October and early November plus getting things at work buttoned up so I can be gone for more than a week at a time. Plus sitting in a pop up while it’s 90 degrees gets me pretty restless and bored. I have the rest of November and December to bow hunt here.
