    no one has mentioned the distance. 12 AWG wire will carry 20 amps but only to a distance of 50'. beyond that the amp loss requires a 10AWG wire.

    one way distance always is part of the calculation. there are calculators on the WWW to help you.

        12/2 Romex yellow with bare copper ground and never look back. You can safely run 1800 watts on a 20a circuit and 12/2 Romex NM-B. Am assuming you are not running in conduit.
