    DIY Safe Remodel

Some of you may remember my thread discussing new gun racks for my safe.

    https://Designing new safe gun stora...ink_source=app

Well I decided to just remove all of the interior shelves and gun rack. The existing shelves were fixed and not adjustable so that had to change. I lined the safe with T&G pine, used Baltic birch for floor and shelves. The shelves are faced with maple to finish out the edge and give some strength. Staining the shelves will be for another day. I will use my own style of rifle rods to store the guns.

I need to do something similar to an old safe.

Are you planning on putting felt on the wood or leaving it exposed?

Great idea, and definite improvement to that gun safe. Looks nice and much more useful, good job.

I wounder if it's possible that that wood could get so hot that it might catch fire if your safe was in a fire. Just something to think about.

I did think of that, but the Sheetrock is still there sandwiched between the wood and the metal. I figure if there is enough heat transfer coming through the Sheetrock to catch the wood on fire then I’m screwed anyways. The MFD just happens to be at the entrance to the neighborhood so hopefully fast response time.
