I can't imagine what that family is going through right now. I hope they find peace. My understanding from the accident was that the horn crushed her sternum when the horse landed on her. I grew up at a time when we didn't wear helmets when we rode, but after a close call when competing, I wear one now when I'm jumping or on a trail I'm unfamiliar with. Glad that women like Fallon Taylor are making safety cool.
As far as the straps, I've only seen those used in the case of a paralyzed rider, never on a kid. I know I've had to bail on several horses, so I'm glad I'm not strapped in.
