            It's called an injury-induced antler. Initial cause is the result of some sort of injury (usually fighting, but can be something else) where antler pedicle cells become displaced and heal in a different location. Exact same phenomenon as 'unicorn' deer (3rd pedicle deer), just located in a spot other than between the antlers. Back in the day, researchers were able to successfully grow antlers from various parts of the body, including legs.

                      I had one here at the house last year that had a 3rd antler (spike) sticking straight out of the middle of his forehead. It was only a couple inches long. I did not shoot him in hopes that he would keep growing it and get bigger this year. I have not seen him at all this year!!!

                        It looks like the antler got split, one grew up and the other grew down his skull to his jaw, exited and grew up. Pretty crazy!
