In case anyone here doesn't know:
HR's job is to protect management, period.
If you complain to HR, they will bury it and you.

The only attack method is to have an attorney send a letter to HR informing them of the incident.
The manager will get toasted because he is now a liability to the company.

My wife is hard of hearing. A senior manager at her office, during a client meeting, made fun of her speech impediment when she ask a question.
The old, don't ask stupid questions hint that you sound retarded.

Far from it, she has an IQ 145+ and is an engineer. Way smarter than me....

Our family attorney sent a letter to HR notifying them of the incident.

He was demoted to a non management position and transferred to the companies netherworld. His career is finished.

Even the clients sent a letter to my wife apologizing for her co-workers statement and that he greatly embarrassed them by his statement.

They have real class in my opinion.

I guess I shouldn't of told that co-worker at work he had a pretty mouth right before I left today. I'm glad I work in the oilfield where folks still have somewhat of a thick skin.

To those folks talking about they would of hit the guy. I call total bullcrap. If your fuse is that short you'd of been doing time long long ago.

Infront of vendors wasn't the place for joking like that I'll admit, but I'd talk to the guy alone. HR is the DEVIL!!! HR is the exact reason folks have a hard time relaxing and enjoying their time at work now days in my opinion. No way in hell would I go to HR.

I see a fundamental difference between the two scenarios, for one your wife didn’t choose to have a hearing (speech) impediment.
RGV was being teased by his boss he was obviously offended by it, but aside from a bruised ego and some hurt feelings does it really require an attorney to make things right?
Is this boss just a jack arse or is this the culture of this particular workplace? The military, construction , oilfield, firehouses and list goes on, in some workplaces it’s quite normal to rib one another, and if people are too sensitive maybe the problem isn’t the offender or the offended but rather just mixing the two in the same work place.

I would report him as well.

Turn his butt in to HR. They can't fire you, and it sounds like your work atmosphere can't get much worse. Plus, your leaving in a few months anyway. You might as well turn him in. You might be surprised at what happens to him. If he is repremanded then you get to dig your knife in a little before you go. If you were staying it might be something to put up with if you enjoyed your job that much. Personally, if this happend to me I would have kept my mouth shut at the time, but I would have turned him in, hoping for him to say something else.

His position is not what I want and I am not milishious enough to get him fired, he still needs to work and support his family. I just want the crap to stop. I also want to mls it where he can not be this way with anyone else.

The Good Book says to turn the other cheek and vengeance is not good either. Don't get me wrong. I turned red and I held back from jumping over the table and making him crap his teeth but, doing that would have only gotten me in trouble.

I am moving to McAllen to work in and eventually take over my father-in-laws business so moving up here does not interest me.

What I would have said would have been alright for me to say but since you're married and that would have made you look kinda bad what you shoulda said was "Is this you're way of inviting me to go to the gay bar with you?"or somethin like that.

Just because he's your boss doesn't mean you have to set and listen to that.If he's gonna talk trash to you he better not start cryin when you say somethin back to him.
                  This^^^^!!

The PRESIDENT of the company I used to work for would always give me a hard time. Say things like, "get that big blk **** out of your mouth and get to doin somethin" I would always come back at him with a "Your wife referred it to me" or "tastes a lot like your wifes......."

I think most of the time, stuff like that is joking around, I personally don't think it's anything to be mad about, the only time I would get mad was when I couldnt come up with a comeback and I would be mad at myself, haha

I would have most likely been escorted out with someone wearing a badge!

I'm in the Marines, so this kind of talk happens every minute of every day. Constant making fun of someone. If you don't grow tough skin, it just gets worse. Even in a job that's more like a fraternity than a business, there is a time and place for everything. No matter what job or environment, a business meeting with clients is not the right place for that kind of behavior. Sometimes you just have to act professional. It's ok to be casual, but you have to remain professional. His actions and comments were very unprofessional, and I would bring it up to HR. Anywhere else, and I'd probably fire back.

Although my dumb arse would have said something like .... no it's the one your wife wears when she rides me reverse cowgirl...It's best you tell HR lady about it. The formal business setting like that with vendors is not the place in my opinion.

On a side note when you get to McAllen you will need a new hat and a new pair of boots.

I am getting my ducks in a row today and goin to HR in the morning.
Do you work for Michael Scott

I know some guys want to tell you it is time to start throwing bones but I wonder how many would in this situation. Your company has an HR for a reason.

Yes, it would be nice if you could just bloody his lip and be done with it. But that is not the case. Now he is insulting vendors and possibly hurting your income.

He obviously, in a cruel, idiotic way, was joking. But this type of joking in a business meeting setting in unacceptable and HR will have a field day with this!

The approach with HR needs to be that you were shocked and offended but that you are a big boy and can take it, but WHAT IF one of the vendors had been offended? If you had been in your office alone and he did this, he obviously was just ribbing you and you could have fired a sharp comeback, but in Vendor Meeting!!...Come on! Report him!
