Need advice on buying a gas chainsaw

For about the past 20 years or so, I've gotten by around the yard with using an electric chain saw. Obviously, the cord is a real hassle, but I've made do with it. Looking around the back yard (approx. 1/2 acre yard), I see a bunch of small saplings and trashy trees (junipers and hackberry) that need to be cut down and cut up for the brush/bulky trash pick up the city offers a couple of times a year. Also, my son and I need to build a couple of deer blinds on the lease this year, and I'm thinking a small gas chain saw might be good for some of the rough cuts that need to be made in building the deer stands.

I'm thinking a small 14 or 16 inch gas chain saw would meet my needs. The cheapest gas chain saws sell for a bit over $100.00 in the big box hardware stores, but do you guys think buying a used chain saw would work for what I need it for? If so, what kind of price range should I expect? What are some of the brands you would recommend?

Your advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Buy a new Stihl in the size you need and be done with it.

Look at the stihl ms170. I use mine a lot and very light.
                Ms271 for larger trees

Stihl. Look into their battery powered electric one.

I just got an Echo Timber Wolf. Bad *** saw so far. My Stihl Farm Boss quit on me after 20 years. $750 for a new Stihl ain’t in my budget!

I'm a big fan of echo and stihl. Get the one on a stick. I have both and I almost never use my regular chainsaw anymore. I bought the Echo PAS with interchangeable attachments - chain saw, hedge trimmer, weedeater, edger - and use them all. I've had them for several years and they still work great. Home Depot carries them.

I posted the above without reading the prior post.

Which ever one you get ... use true fuel and not gas station gas.
