That's what I thought. I had never seen one before, and last summer I saw a pair at a diner a half mile from my house. Me and the grandson sat in the truck for 30 mins looking with binoculars going through books trying to ID. Still wasn't too sure. Since I have see a couple in front of the Lowes in the intersection of Galloway and Childress. I see at least one most times I go through there, they will be dropping down from the power lines to near ground level, and back up. I assume after insects.

Bryan is right. Sorry, I forgot to label these.

          1. Male house finch
          2. Western kingbird
          3. Female Northern Cardinal
          4. Painted bunting, male
          5. Female house finch

If store parking lots have trees you will see the Western kingbirds a lot if they are in the area. That shot was taken at the local mall. The only thing I can figure is there are so many bugs after a night of shining light that they stay for the easy food. They nest in the trees at our local mall along with the scissortails. This is another shot from the other day with a male displaying to another male I assume because of his approach. Never knew they displayed like this and neither did a bunch of people I know that are more bird educated than me.

            Amazing shots as usual Bill.

I'm curious, at what distance were these taken and how much they've been cropped. And because you mentioned taking photos at the mall, do you carry your camera gear with you everywhere or, did you go there with the intent to take photos?

            Keep it up!

Thank you! Different distances, probably 15 to 40 ft. I went to the mall to purposely shoot pics. I do carry equip probably 75% of the time. Never know.
