Default The Crush, what the heck?

Lee just took a shot on a giant white tail, at 64 yards in the rain, looked like a gut shot to me. 64 yards in the rain ?

I personally wouldnít take that shot As I donít practice out that far. Donít have an issue with him doing it though. They make a living killing big bucks Iím sure he practices that distance and was confident he could make it.

Probably wasn’t the best situation for a 64 yard shot, but Lee doesn’t miss the mark much. He’s usually dead nuts. Now his wife...she could spine an invertabrate.

I guess because I try to eliminate as many things as I can, that could go wrong, taking a shot of that distance I would think greatly increases the chance of wounding an animal. When I hunt in the rain I also worry about even close shots, blood trails get hard to follow in the rain. To each his own, for my taste that shots to risky.

They take shots at that distance all the time and think nothing of it. How many they lose that they don't show on film, I don't know. Maybe none?

Blood trail definitely wasnt guts. Qrt’ing away and he hit liver and backside lung.

Dead deer, fully recovered.

Very few people could put shoot Him. More power to him

I hear ya. Not a far shot if he is proficient at it though. I don’t think I would a do that on a whitetail even though I practice at that range.

I think his shot was true, reason he hit him it the guts was the deer moved. I donít care how good a shot you are, a shot at that range gives the deer a lot of time to move. Donít know much about the recovery other than what footage made the show. Call it what you want the liver is guts.

He practices those distances allot, his bows are well tuned, and those Iowa Buck's bodies give a much bigger kill zone than our Texas Whitetail. Lee Lakosky, Levi Morgan, and Tim Wells are some of the best compound shooters around.

If you think 64 yards is too far for these pros, then don't watch Tim Wells

Just because you don't have the confidence to do it, doesn't mean someone else has the confidence too do it.

Interesting.. so one of the elk I killed, was with a hard qtr as he spun. Hit liver and one lung. He went 100 yards bedded and died... but he was now gut shot.

A lot of people that hang around me say that same thing about learning something new every day, I donít think they are serious though. I didnít say the liver wouldnít kill them, i think itís about as deadly as it gets, and yes sometimes on quartering shots itís right where you want to be. That was not the case on his shot, and as for it being guts, I consider behind the diaphragm as guts.

I watched that earlier. It was a great shot, but there was an element of luck in my opinion. To see how much that buck dropped underscored how that is an unethical shot for most of us. To his credit, he got it done.

I'll be the crazy guy speaking in absolutes. 64yds is too far on a whitetail no matter the situation. There is too much a whitetail can do from that distance. It doesn't matter how well practiced a guy is when the deer moves and is unpredictable.

Luckily he recovered the deer, but that is a low percentage shot no matter who you are.

Maybe I am just getting old ....but I don't give enough of a flip to get worked up over how far Lee shoots at a deer.

.....As long as he's not shooting at a deer on my place while I'm at full draw aiming at the same, I'm not losing any sleep over what he or any TV hunter does. I have my personal limitations and as long as he's not holding a gun to my head to exceed them, I'm good..

He practices those shots and seems confident in his abilities and equipment. Iím sure he felt he was not overstepping his personal limits.

By the way, this was a quartering away shot. Complete pass through that came out the opposite shoulder.
Aim for the exit.

I’m sure it ended up better than the shot I saw a girl do on the WGI boys show today. One of the “contestants” shot a buck in the elbow with a crossbow. Didn’t look like it even went in the chest cavity. Deer was never found.

Lee’s one of the few outdoor personalities that actually can shoot and does his own bow setups. Also Iowa deer aren’t like shooting some deer down south.

When itís God, the deer and you (this probably doesnít apply with Lee because of the whole camera thing), your maximum ethical range is directly proportional to the size of the deerís rack.

Bunch of jealous, butt hurt people complaining about lee like that. He shoots a single pin at super long distances all the time. He gave the back story on the deer, 5 years of history. Almost no visual footage of him in the deer season. He was a sporadic big buck on that farm. He came in, kNew that the trail he was on was as close as he was going to get. The deer was quartering away and he hit him perfect for a quartering away shot. Not to mention the deer scored 201Ē and was his biggest ever. Lots of experts on here, everyone griping about how poor of a shot he is and unethical the shot was post up your best video of your free range monster bucks and maybe weíll listen to you.

think about it this way, it is just fine to take a .300 and shoot an animal from 700-1000 yards on tv with almost no complaining, then a guy shoots a toad at 64yds with a bow and everyone jumps him. we have all watched those long rifle shots, from mountain to mountain, and see the vapor trail and see that it takes like 3 seconds for the bullet to get there.....so, we always say as bowhunters "alot can happen in 20yds" alot more can happen at 64yds...............but a lot can happen at 1000 with a rifle. i like to get up close, but, i practice out to 60 and will have no issue taking a shot at that range.
