Alright, so I knew I made one dumb mistake, and I may have turned it into two dumb mistakes. Last hunting season I left a backpack in my popup to go to my daughters soccer game with the plan to go back to the farm right after. Well something happened and I didn't make it back. I think it ended up raining that day and I couldn't get to my hunting spot. This was at the same time as all the flooding in south texas and I couldn't get back to my spot for a month or two.
Well, come to find out I had left my .22 high standard in my backpack. I could have swore I put it in my gun cabinet, but no. I found it in my backpack all rusted up.
Mistake 2, I was talking to a friend about how vinegar will kill rust and if you soak it, the rust rubs right off. So I soak the gun in vinegar for a few days here recently. I notice that all the rust is just wiping off, but so is the blueing!! I then read that the bluing is basically a type of rust somewhere.
So what are my options? The gun will stay in the vinegar until I decide to do something with it? If I cerakote it won't all the little pieces such as springs and stuff still rust afterwards, or will it be ok if I just keep it oiled??
Pics tonight.
