Storm, as big as that RV is, you can camp anywhere . And with as much parking space as there is at each entrance, I'm sure nobody will mind you parking it there while you hunt.

(#I might, or might not have, camped in an Albertson's parking lot.)

Last Friday they were cleaning up the boat ramp at Kimbal. Looks like they have it about ready to open but I don't know if they will by this coming week end.
Getting a pretty good rain this morning.

Yes on the good rain! Lake has come up 3" in the last 24 hours. Course Grandbury and PK are releasing small amount of water too.

It may be chisholm trails where I camp I went and got my generator n tent just in case. The RV would be nice but I rather have a full service campsite than run the gen on it.

Anyone camp at Morgan Lakeside Park, or Steel Creek Park? From what I read, it is primitivism camping. I can get by without the electricity, just need a place to park the camper for the weekend. I talked with COE Office on Friday, they said Kimball Bend was not going to be opened up by Oct1s, might be sometime next year. 😕

Steele creek isn't bad but it fills up fast. It's first come first serve so if you want a spot for this weekend you better show up early. There's also a lot of (for lack of a better word) trash that goes there so make sure you keep your stuff locked up.

Justin, bring some of that back with ya . Pretty pleasant this morning here, so far.

Coop, not sure that I'll camp the 1st weekend. Let all those folks get it out of they're system. And will have to make accommodations for the pup when I do. Might on a weekday though.

If you had a choice, which camp ground would you choose, and why? Steel Creek or Chisholm Trail.

With the COE Parks closed due to the flooding, and stories of people steeling your stuff got me a little worried about the camp site while in the hunt area.

Just trying to make an educated decision with the Green Screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've never been to Chisholm trail but you can usually bet that the pay parks are better. When I camp out there I usually find one of the pay parks. Better upkeep (usually) and for the most part people who like to steal stuff don't like to pay to camp

Chisholm Trail vs. Steele Creek . Both almost the same. Except Steele Creek closes the gate at 10PM. And don't reopen till 6AM. You can still go out after 10PM. But you can't get back in till 6AM. Keeps a bunch of the bar crowd out after closing time. Chisholm Trail is in/out @ 24/7, no gates. Steele Creek dose have water some what availble at most of the camp sights. But best to bring a hose and a hose splitter. Because most water spickets are shared between 2 camp sights. Chisholm Trail has no water. But you can make that last minute run to the store for beer before they close without getting locked out .

There is always McCown Valley that would make the drive shorter for the DFW folks. Located mid lake. Starting Oct 1st, got electric, water, and RV hook-ups (if needed) for $14 night. Also got cabins with RV hook-ups for $30 night. $24 cabins with no RV hook-ups (but usually have electric outlets inside, and water outside). And primitive sights for $10 night. Gated from 10PM till 6AM.

I used to line the cabins, on ACE trips across the state, with poly-tarps to keep the wind out. Sure makes a big difference when it comes to heating .

Also, if you buddy up and split a cabin 2-4 ways, it's pretty nice for a weekend. There is usually a picnic table inside each cabin in most parks that have cabins across the state. Fire rings and/or cooking pits outside.

Thanks for the advice, I'm planning on hunting H1 area, staying closer to that side of the lake will work better for me. I can get by with out electricity and pack in water, I will pull the travel trailer for convenience, buddy is pulling the boat for ease of access.

Good luck to everyone able to hunt this weekend. Hunting forecast looks 100% both sat. And sun.

If its possible, be in the stand from 11:00-2:00..... Peak feeding time.

If you have a few seconds while on stand,, keep us in your thoughts...

24 hours from now, we will take the second step on my wife's journey.

The times I've been there it was always loud and trashy looking and seemed iffy at best. I was at Chisholm trails on Saturday and it was mowed and clean as can be , with no water I just pack it in and bring my generator also. I'd bring the rv but I need the truck to travel around.

Got out for my last scout before huntin time this am....felt great out. Breaks my heart to see the trash some people leave. I'll never understand how someone can manage to haul in two 40 pound bags of corn but can't seem to carry out the empty 4 oz sacs afterwards. Anyways, saw some stands up, so I'll avoid those areas. Met another hunter out there for the first time and it he seemed like a good dude, glad that guys like that are huntin out here. Just a couple more days fellas. Police your trash, stay quite, keep hammering....

this is the only buck I got on camera before my camera gave out( it think sometime last weekend). But I have 3-4 does that show up almost every day.
I know he's young and probably not legal but the mass on such a young buck makes me excited for how he'll be in a few years hope he can last that long

Cool pics, I'm stoked about the season, and ready for Saturday morning, can't wait.

It also bothers me how people cannot carry out their trash that they pack in.

As far hanging stands and leaving them out while not actively hunting is a lack of respect of the COE Rules. I don't mind moving along if I happen into an area that is being actively hunted. I have put in my time scouting, and have back up plans just in case this this happens. That being said, if its a good spot, I wont be discouraged to hunt it, if no-one is actively hunting that area just because some-one failed to remove their stand. After all, this is Public Land.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hope everyone has an awesome season.

From what I've seen Oak Trees should be good hunting. They have plenty to eat for sure this year. We got over 6 inches of rain the other day by Lakeside. The 6 inch gauge was running over. It was so dry that it isn't all that muddy though.

Good luck to everyone and hope to see some pictures.

By far the most trash I've seen is the fisherman walking down the Nolan and leaving crap along the bank. Of course, first time the water comes up, it all goes into the river/lake.
