Default Trying to figure out my next bow

I'm currently shooting a Mathews z7 xtreme and I love it but my draw length is 29" and I'm wanting something with a longer ata. I'm looking to trade mine but I'm not sure what im looking for. Other than longer I wouldn't mind getting some extra speed out of it. Kinda leaning towards the Hoyt but trying to figure out what I want next. Thanks in advance

Shoot a bunch of different makes and models all set up to your draw length and draw weight and pick the one that you like the best no matter what the name is on the bow.

I'm very fortunate, I get to shoot and test drive a lot of bows for my customers. There are a ton of great bows out there for sure and finding the right bow is truly an individual/personal experience. With that being said I would highly recommend trying an e32 or 35. The overall shooting experience is pretty phenomenal.

I shot the elite 35 and it is very very nice to shoot. I've heard they weren't turning very high speeds have you cronoed one yet?

I shot a King Cobra once. That thing shook worse than a Hoyt Alpha Tec.

Find something a couple years old, used on AT, and save a TON of money. Faktor 34 would be a great choice if you are looking for a tad longer Hoyt. Probably find them for $500 all day long. I got mine left over BNIB last year for $600 shipped.

I personally do not believe there is anywhere close to enough advancement from year to year to justify the cost of a new bow. And you can even get current year models for hundreds less in the classifieds on AT.

No one call suggest the best bow for you. Go to multiple dealers, they all want to sell you a bow so they will let you handle all of them. Buy what you are most comfortable with.

Truth. I have "my" preferences but that may not hold true to the next guy. Brand loyalty is the stupidest thing I've ever witnessed when it comes to a bow as much as they change each and every year.

I was thinking of upgrading my Elite too
Which bows do I want to look at?

I liked the Mathews Halon or the HTR
Which Elite is good? Energy 32?
Which Hoyt?

I have a Halon that I really like. That being said, there are a lot of great bows out there, and you should even give Bear a look. Check out the torque tests on Youtube. Bear is winning there.

This is a good plan. I bought my E35 for $650 shipped when they were going for $900 in the stores. You couldn't tell it from a new one.

Honestly I prefer the Energy line over the Impulse from Elite and as far as the Hoyt's go I really thought last years Nitrum series to be better over all performers that the Defiant line up. You can get a 15' rigged out for what a bare bow 16' would cost and never know the difference in the performance dept.

I will be visiting probably 5 shops over the next 2 maybe 3 days and shooting as many different models as I can. I may or may not buy one, it just depends on how they feel to me. I am going to have to travel about 5 to 6 hours east to try a bunch of different bows, but to me if I am going to spend over a grand for a new bow, I want to make sure I get the one I like!

I shot the the Hoyt Defiant, the Mathews Halon, and the Elite Impulse 34. All were better shooting than my Z7 Xtreme, all very smooth. Both the Defiant and the Halon, with ATAs of 30.5 and 30 respectively, actually drew like 34" ATA bows due to the way the cams are designed. I ranked them in terms of preference the way they are listed above and ordered the Defiant. But that's me.

I chose the Hoyt because of the draw curve - or, at least the way I perceived it. The Defiant loaded smoothly and consistently while the Halon took more force up front then leveled off. And, for what its worth, the Defiant has almost no perceptible vibration at the shot, while the Halon had a little buzz to it. Both were shot bare bow.

speed is so over-rated

ponder this fact .... very few rigged out hunting bows shoot an arrow faster than a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun (350 fps)

speed comes at a cost and it all depends how you like your bow to feel on the draw cycle and back wall.

as others have mentioned, go shoot 'em and let the bow pick you

fwiw - I like the longer ATA of the Elite 35 as it's a pleasure to shoot

I will tell you this, I shot Obsession, New Breed, Expedition, High Country, Hoyt, Bowtech, PSE, Elite, Mathews Prime and maybe a couple of others that I cannot remember. when shot on all the same draw weight and draw length, they were all within 12 fps of each other! I chose my current bow on feel in my hand, draw cycle and feel on the shot.

I will tell you this, I stepped out of my comfort zone doing this and I am VERY DANG HAPPY with my choice of bows. I am shooting better now than I have shot in a long, long time!

Shoot them all and let the bow choose you, you will know when you shoot it!

I'll make you a deal on an HCA bow
Got a 29/70 Axis that is smooth and shooting above IBO.
If you want longer ATA, can get you an Eliminator (37") or the new Ascension (36")

You owe it to yourself to try the Halon X. 35 ATA. Mathews hit another home run with this bow.

If you want a slightly used bow, less money, go for the Chill X. Also a 35" ATA.

Check out TX based Moxie Archery. I shoot their 35.5" and love it. Its a 330 IBo but they 32" 340 IBO. I have been really happy with it this year. Got to take a Ram and a few hogs on the lease.

Every bow I shot could have been the one I chose. They were all great shooting bows bar none!

The only way to choose the bow that will perform or shoot like you want is to shoot as many different mfgrs and models as you can and let the bow pick you.

Do not let anyone tell you what bow you need to shoot, you decide!

This is the way to go ! I bought an E 35 that looked brand new for $650 when dealers were getting $899. Not knocking dealers, but bows are like trucks, they are just too expensive to buy new.

I've always shot the more well known brand bows, I decided this year to switch it up after hearing great reviews of the newer smaller companies. I got rid of my elite synergy for a Xpedition xcentric 7..... Wow. These smaller companies sure put out some fantastic products.

Just be careful on buying a used bow due to the warranty.

I would suggest a Sarrels Takedown about 66" or call Jeff Freeman and get him to set you up a true personal custom bow. Either way they both would be good, or you can get into a Bear Grizzly used on the bay for about a third of the price, and still shoots well. (I have two different grizzlies and like them both)
You get a longer ATA and if you go to a Sarrells then it would be top "speed" for anything of it's likeness.

I shot Mathews for a very, very long time. I now shoot an obsession and am very happy with it. I did have a hard time deciding between obsession and an elite. But the obsession has so many more options. Shooting better then I ever have. They also have a lot of different bows out this year.
