I hunt Oakalla (right next to Kempner). No Axis by me. Wish they'd move my way from Kempner :-)

Here's a few pics from last weekend. I don't know how old these deer are, but I'll enjoy watching them develop.

how's the pig population going. I usually only have a few pics every year. Yesterday I saw 3 off of 580, kinda got my hopes up. Going to check the trail camera today.

Our place is 2 miles south of NIX off of 580 and we have never seen a hog. We have out four feeders and cameras on 200 acres.

Just a matter of time. We never had hogs and they showed up a couple years ago. Just north east of Kempner.

How is the greenery out there right now? Are they hitting protein? corn?

My lease is just North of Lampasas a few minutes on US 281. The place with the for sale sign.

General area FINALLY got the rain it needed. Deer should be fat and healthy this year. Cant wait to pull cards in August. Probably a bumper crop of acorns in the works too. I just hope my lease does't sell between now and then. She's about a smooth mill. too high. I think we are ok this year unless she drops price mucho pronto.

edit: my contingent lease

It is wild how many of the deer are "resident" deer. Lol. I see a lot of the same ones and the new crop getting raised up each year. For sure during hunting season, I do see some new ones as well. It's not a huge wave of new deer that come in, but I certainly notice the new faces.

At least once a season, usually when we are not seeing much at our lease, we will drive thru the neighborhoods on the West side of town and just check 'em out. Doesn't matter what time of day, we will always see some, sometimes a bunch.

Made a lease trip this last weekend. Its amazing how much our area has dried out. Deer are starting to hit the feeders a lot harder. Had three decent bucks on cams and we are still missing some nice bucks from last year that we know made it through the season.

I will be making a trip in a couple of weeks to set up tree stands and a ground blind, fill feeders and check cameras. Can't wait to see the pics. We have a herd of "piebald" deer running through our place. Owner doesn't allow us to hunt them though. Beautiful animals.

looking good 686. Nothing wrong with some chicken-fried turkey tenders!

Big boy in the center of pic. 2 looks like he might be a little older. Is that the same deer in pic. 3? He looks pregnant!

Yeah our older bucks have some beer bellies on this place. The place hasn't been hunted nor any supplemental feed put out in years, (prior to us getting on it a few months ago) so kinda surprised to see the weight on some of these guys.

I'm thinking that crab claw buck in the foreground of a couple of the photos will be a cull, and the buck with the grey neck is probably ready.

Made it out today, saw him this morning got to about 30 yards and he never got comfortable and took off with out giving me a shot. Not a trace this evening. Did see a nice young 10 point thought. Oh well I'll try again next week.

Our place is on the river just south of Adamsville, have some promising deer this year, they absolutely benefited from the rain this spring. Very few hogs, have had 2 or 3 on cams in last couple years and never actually seen any. Had 1 axis on 2 years ago, my buddy shot him and he was delicious!
