Get a remote light and find out if they still let you use hand corn. Last year I had them come in every night but always got busted before I could get a shot. My dad went 3 times with me and was able to shoot 2 pigs. Tons of hogs. Lots of deer too but you can only watch them.

Just need a lavon permit from the office in Wylie. Don't need the APH. You cannot bait. No hand Corning. Up north of the bridge you can use shotguns now. Everything else is archery only for pigs.

Last year they allowed hand Corning as long as you didn't have any feeders set up. Just check with the ranger. Also, no trail cams.

I went quite a bit this summer to scout with my bow. I saw a lot of fresh sign around unit 3-5. I probably went up there 6 or 7 times and scouted a whole lot, both early am and evening and I never did see an actual hog. I saw quite a few deer, unfortunately they are off limits at Lavon... Be careful around any creek areas, definitely saw a few snakes around those areas.

You can pick any unit and find hogs. Now... whether or not it will be so thick that you can't shoot is another question entirely. I'll be out there on a weekly basis once deer season is over.
Some of the units you don't have to go too far to find sign. Just make sure you have a flashlight, and your phone is on full charge because its one of the easiest places to get lost in that I've hunted. I got lost out there for 3 hours one night when I forgot my flashlight. Kept following a creek, but didn't realize that it fed into three other ones. I'm also pretty positive that some of the areas closer to houses get hit pretty regularly by the locals. |

I took my friend out there for his first ever hunt. Went in mainly just to scout. I found a pig trail and scat. Followed it to a bunch of big sows. He gotta shot of with his bow at about 30 yards. She was about 160 # and left two piglet behind that we caught by hand.
I know a good spot but you have to swim to get there. I call it hog island.. |

Anyone been out here lately? Just got my permit and thinking about at least scouting it out tomorrow. Which zones are you guys hunting? Based on the TPWD success reports from 13', zones 6, 2, and 13 had the best yields... and in 12', zones 10,5, and 7(in that order).

Did some scouting in zone two. Lot's of sign, but no actual hogs seen. Very thick vegetation that's pretty rough getting through. Looks like they are just finishing up a sewer line that cuts along the edge. Saw a couple of workers later in the morning. Also came across feeders, campsites, tree stands, ground blinds, and cut 4-wheeler trails. With all the obvious pressure along with a few traps I saw on private land bordering COE, im thinking night hunting is about the only way to get on some hogs. Thinking about trying the northern zones. Per google maps, the terrain looks a lot more open.

Not enough posts for PMs yet.
Went out to zone 2 the other night. The Gatorade in my pack froze solid, but there was still some activity. Heard and smelled some hogs pass nearby, but I never actually saw any. Did see coyotes, armadillos, a skunk, and an owl. I was posted up near a clearing along a game trail that had the most, and freshest sign. No luck. Going to try again soon. May go deeper this time. |

I know spot lighting isn't allowed, but I do have a green bow mounted light that I only use to light the area when I take a shot. Is this considered spotlighting? Not sure how else to take a hog at night with a bow. I also have lighted nocks and a sight light. I've got gen 1 night vision but I've found it to be pretty much useless.

There aren't any laws that say you can't use a spotlight for hogs. If you were hunting deer, you would be in trouble. Get out there and put some pork on the ground.

Got out and got my permit today... Talked to the rangers a bit. Got some tips on where to hunt. Spent 30 min poking around on the of the sections...
Now I can't wait to get out there and actually do some hunting. Area I saw showed fresh signs of rooting and rutting... Just gotta get the time to get out there now.. |

I'll PM you guys what little info I got. I don't want to post on here for any and every yahoo to see when doing a google search...
I'm planning on heading out tomorrow morning early to stalk around. He talked like I could stalk during the day and find piggies. Could have been old or bad info, I dunno. I want to get to know the area a little before I try to do a night hunt, but that's coming soon too. Probably have to wait for a full moon since I don't have a bow light or anything... |

So I was out there this morning stalking between 2575 and 380 and I came across someone in a pop up blind...
If that was you, I apologize if I disturbed anything you were watching. I saw some tracks, roots and ruts but couldn't tell how fresh any of it was. I didn't see or hear anything except the duck hunters going crazy. Walked for about 5 hrs today and a little disappointed but I am sure it happens more often than not. |
