I have a $200 echo 14” that has lasted awhile. Pruning and smaller firewood. Starts easy every time. A big part of that is using the premixed fueldnin the container as I don’t use it often. I had less trouble with it starting than stihl weedeaters and blowers in the past, although was using pump gas mixed on them.

Got a neighbor that keeps the Stihl MS 170 in his mule, that saw gets abused bad and has never failed to start and it is old.

That's what I've got, 271. Couldn't ask or need for more. You can use a 16", 18", or 20" bar on them things~!

I got one. It'll do exactly what your wanting.

I run the 50/50 premixed fuel and runs like a champ.

Those cheap bastages at Stihl wont give you a case with that saw, just comes with a bar cover.

Great saw and will do almost anything youll normally need a saw for.

It’s all we use at work... reliable if you take care of them.

Small and light weight. Can't go wrong, but don't expect to cut a 24" tree down.

If you are looking for a limb saw and small firewood then the 170 is a tough to beat option. If you are looking for what I would call a light use firewood saw then check out an MS250. They are also on sale right now for $299 instead of $359. It comes down to which price point you can be in. The 250 will run a .325 18” chain instead of a low pro .375 16” chain. It will also have notably more power than a 170. It just comes down to your budget, and what you are looking at for firewood. Size of what you want to cut, speed you want to cut it, and how long you want the chain to be sharp(if used properly) make all of the difference.

Is the 170 the farm model?
