Math question

Ok, so we do something a little different with our older two kids that we call mirror math.... basically, we write a math problem on the kids bathroom mirror at night after they go to bed. Whoever wakes up first in the morning gets first shot at solving the problem... best out of five for the week gets a prize that weekends. No judgement needed, it actually helps them wake up in the morning and get the brain working... anyways there is an argument between the family over the answer of this mornings question... I want to see what you guys come up with...

18-2x3+(6x3)=?

Interestingly enough both kids came up with the only 2 possible answers... who is right

this is incorrect. add and subtract are equal in order of operations and are done left to right so it would be
18-2*3+18
18-6+18
12+18

Ive been wrong before and I know I will be wrong again. Working left to right was my first instinct but then thought of that silly saying.
