    African Song Dogs

With lambing and calving season in full swing at the moment in South Africa I am being kept busy with lowering the population of jackal on farms in the area.

My go to rifle is a 222 Rem made by Anshutz hand loaded with 50gr VMax. I use a foxpro caller.

I call at night and mostly alone. But have taken out quite a few international hunters to get the experience to call under African stars.

Going out last night I was working a spot that has educated jackal due to the farm manager trying to resolve the problem by himself.

The jackal is especially light shy at the moment.

Luckily I managed to call the two problem
jackal in and I had a quick shot at one at 240m.

The VMax did the job perfectly...

Now that is baddarse. Would’ve never imagine hearing about night hunting varmints in Africa. When I make it there, that would be on the list of things to do.

      Its a lot of fun.

You see quite a few different animal species during a calling session that you don’t normally get to see during day time.

When jackal do their part people tend to get a serious dose of jackal fever [emoji38]

I would be afraid of the hunter becoming the hunted at night alone.

What happens if you can in something much larger than a jackal? Lol

Good job. I twice tried to take a Jackel in Zim but missed both times. They are elusive.

I have called in other predators at night but the biggest predator you can expect on the Escarpment is a Brown Hyena.

Other areas in the bushveld you can maybe get a leopard to come see what you are doing but I have in the 15 odd years I am calling yet to see one.

                            Thanks,
I prefer not to shoot them that far but the killing chair on the back of the pickup enable me to give them a poke at that distance.

Mostly they are taken anywhere from 20-150 yards from the truck
