I've been told it's basically a Mori-Seiki built in Korea under Samsung's name for import/export reasons. They seem like great machines in all my research, but looking for first hand experience opinions. We'd buy another Mori but the cost is way past what we can do currently, that being said our big Mori lathe is 25+ years old and still running strong.

I have never run one, but everyone I talk to says they are good machines. The ones I have seen look like copies of the Moris. For me service is a big deal when looking at machines. No matter how good a machine is, eventually you will need parts, and someone that knows what they are doing to fix it. My mill is Leadwell, it is decent, no complaints, but it is a low end machine. The sole reason I was willing to buy it was because of a particular tech that Campat has down here. I dont know anything about Samsung service. I would definitely stress that point to the salesman. You have to be able to get parts. Fast. And someone to talk to when things go wrong. None of this Mazak treatment crap.

I was told they are overbuilt and very rigid for the footprint. Never heard any negative. Curious why you're looking Samsung over other brands.
I'm in the market as well, I'll most likely go Haas though, they fit what I need with a little extra room for expansion. I run my shop as a side business so I'm not shopping big machines.

I have 2 Samsung lathes that I have been very happy with. One is a 2009 SL30 that I bought used this time last year. The second one is a 2011 SL35 I bought new. They are work horses. Who is the dealer? Amtech? Not sure where you are located, but you are more than welcome to come look at mine.

Agree and that worked into my decision to stay with a known machine.
